mizzars
Mizzars is the solo project of Amsterdam (Holland) based artist Mars Hendrix.
All the music you'll find here by Mizzars, are recent home demo recordings. My music is sometimes rock, sometime funk, sometimes singer/songwriter and sometimes just noisy whatever. And a bit of retro 80's here and there. Most of the time I do all instruments and vocals, sometimes my Indian friend Radja appears at the mike. I hope you'll enjoy it. My favorite song right now is 'I am'. The sound quality is bad, but I like it as a song. Hope you do too! Give me feedback.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I Started as a rhythm guitarist in a band named 'Honger' in 1984. Next year I became lead singer of a Ramones, New York Dolls, Stooges inspired group, called 'TV Babys', with Ro Krom ('OlaBola', 'Ro & paradise Funk', 'Gotcha!) on drums and Arnold Smits ('Raggende Manne'' Ro & paradise Funk', 'Gotcha!) on guitar. In 1987 I formed the band 'Lonely Hearts Killers', wich was the first band for me in wich I wrote most of the songs. After that, in 1988 or so, I had a lot of fun with a seventees cover band (all dressed up for the glam rock show) called 'Gouwe Klauwe', with Martijn Bosman ('Kane') on drums E-Bone ('Gotcha!') on bass. In the in the early ninetees I joined Holland's #1 P-Funk group "Gotcha!" (I was out of a band since 'Gotcha!' stole E-Bone from 'Gouwe Klauwe'). With 'Gotcha!' I had a nice time, but also a hard time combining roles such as booker, manager, roadmaneger, backing vocalist & friend. In the same period (1990-1993), I also did some lead- and backing vocals in the band 'Psychotic Bumbschool', wich was a coalition of some Parliament Funkadelic members, dutch top guitarist Wouter Planteyd (o.a Sjako!) and some Gotcha! members. Rollarocka/Shyrock ('Postmen') was one of the other vocalists in this group, as well as Irepeat ('Beef'). This was my last 'professional' band I played with. Ever since I just play music as a hobby and let go of the idea of making money with music. For me, that had only lead to trouble sofar. Eversince I enjoy making music much more! So....that worked out fine. It's hard for a Dutch artist to live from his music, you see, and the constant struggle was killing me at a certain point. Now I enjoy the music again and can do exactly what I want to do, without thinking of money, carreer, industry etc. To go for short: I'm happy. Although my music sounds a bit down sometimes. We'll that's just the way it is.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
No, not yet. Or... not anymore. Any wich way: not right now.
Your musical influences
David Bowie and Lou Reed (and Iggy Pop) for a long time, after that the Ramones, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy and so and after that George Clinton, Sly Stone, Bob Marley
What equipment do you use?
