Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Since its official designation in 1925, the U.S. Navy Band has grown to become a diverse organization comprised of 163 enlisted musicians and three officers. Based at the historic Washington (D.C.) Navy Yard, the organization features a concert-ceremonial unit and four distinct specialty groups--the "Sea Chanters" chorus (1956), the "Commodores" jazz ensemble (1969), the "Country Current" country-bluegrass group (1973), and the "mister_density" noise ensemble (2003). The band also features several chamber music groups.

Your musical influences
Brian Hartzog's Musical Influences
"I grew up listening to classic rock radio--the kind that plays great songs all day...songs from the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin. Then, when I was about 14 or so, I discovered funk music--thanks to Prince's 1999. From there I learned about James Brown, Parliament, Sly and the Family Stone...Whenever I found a group that I liked, I'd find out who they were influenced by...and I'd listen to them too...I guess I was trying to learn the lessons my heroes learned from their heroes...I'm a real student that way...Most people can hear little bits of all of these influences in my music..."
