Miss Jaye (US)

Miss Jaye, born Jessica Nicole Phillips on December 3, 1985 in Houston Texas began her musical training in kindergarten at Longfellow, an elementary school for performing and visual arts. She was exposed to woodwind, brass, string, and chordal instruments, as well as vocal ensemble, but chose to focus on the alto sax. An all around gifted artist, Jaye also began to dabble in rapping, singing and songwriting. Throughout the next several years Jayes talent and musical accomplishments would be recognized by her peers and band instructors having been named Most Outstanding Band Member, Most Distinguished Band Member and Outstanding Instrumentalist for 7 consecutive years. She also participated in the Summer Jazz Workshop, spearheaded by Bubba Thomas and Conrad O. Johnson, where she received three Conrad O. Johnson Improvisation Awards. These accolades along with her sound background in musical theory would gain her acceptance to the prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. While attending HSPVA, Jaye began to focus more on her writing skills. In her sophomore year, one of her poems was selected to be published in a compilation by The International Poetry Society. Jaye also competed in the NAACP ACTSO Competition and brought home silver medals in poetry and music composition. She worked with longtime friend Solange Knowles as Musical Director on her upcoming project. Currently, Miss Jaye is working on her album with John Broussard, CEO of JAB Productions and performing in the Houston area. Jaye and the band, The Movement, were invited to perform at The Texas Beach Party 2005 and headlined for one month at The Red Cat Jazz Café. Miss Jaye has written songs and performed backgrounds on several up and coming Houston Artists albums. The multi-talented Miss Jaye feels at home on the runway, the stage or in the studio. As a lead model for a fashion designer, she traveled to New Orleans, Philadelphia and Miami to promote the line. She can sing, act, dance, write, read and play music and is comfortable both in the limelight and behind the scenes.
