Mike Allen
Texas Singer/Songwriter Mike Allen. Always a writer, Mike had his first song recorded in 1984, "Whiskey and Tears", and has been an ASCAP writer and publisher since 2001. Falling into a cross between Country/Southern Rock/Roots/Americana/Blues and Folk, Mike's music is REAL. Whether it is about a love gone wrong, one newly found or just the pitfalls of everyday life, everyone will find something of themselves in Mike's songs.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I began playing music for a living in 1976 at 16 years old and haven't slowed down since. I've travelled the country as a lead guitarist in a variety of bands from Blues to Country. I went out on my own in 2001. A detour led me back into a guitarist situation for awhile, but I'm back to my own music now and more determined than ever
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes. All over the country. I LOVE IT! I feel more at home on the road than anywhere else.
Your musical influences
All the GREAT singer/songwriters of Texas Music: Guy Clark, Billy Joe Shaver, Townes Van Zandt, Rodney Crowell, Hayes Carll, etc., as well as guitarists like James Burton, Ray Flacke, Clapton, Toy Caldwell. Dickey Betts, Duane Allman...the list is endless!
What equipment do you use?
An Epiphone ES-339 is my current #1. Just an amazing semi with a fantastic touch and tone, without all the bulk. A Yamaha DW5S acoustic, Peavey Valve King 112 and a vintage 112 Bandit amps, Boss effects.
