Hi Midge, My favorite of your music is 'Apologies' Like the lyrics and your voice is great in it. The song has the emotion I like. Wow, just realized i was the last poster, it's only taken me over a year to listen again :s You should have more comments though, i think you've got a real talent for writing songs and am quite envious. domj.

Thanks for stopping by, Midge. Glad the music is to your liking. No reason to put it on display if no one listens. That's why I love to cruise around and visit others to let others know someone is listening. There's a lot of fabulous music out here. Stop on by anytime... the coffe's always hot.

Hey Midge - just listening to your songs. Under the Ice strikes me as a good dose of Britpop - music which takes me back to my younger days when i loved the whole British music scene; Example some of the stuff by Blur, or even Soft Boys from earlier times. Raise your Hand - also a great song. I gotta ask - why don't you sing with the thick Caledonian accent like the Proclaimers (another band that comes to mind). Is it just local dialect differences? Good stuff - I'll keep listening Jeff

Hi Midge. I saw some of your posts on SC Seniors and popped in for a listen. You have a very nice folk style and good songwriting skills, as well as a nice voice and skills with the guitar. Good attributes for a musician indeed. About the only thing your works need is production techniques, just a bit of noise and mixing levels, nothing insurmountable. The quality of the music is certainly fabulous. Being an old porch musician a lot of my music is similar. I'm just am old folkie ex-hippie with a computer. I'm not perfect, that's for sure. Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed going through your tunes. I particularly liked the guitar work in "We've Always Time".and the tune "Closely, Closely". Great work.

Man, I just listened to Lazy Days and Mary-Anne and I gotta say, I loved them both. You sure know how to write a great song. You and I have much in common musically, we both like to keep it simple. You know, I believe a form of musical genius is taking a simple idea or progression or riff and making it a great song. Adding extra chords and complicated timing etc... usually ends up complicating the listener's good vibe. Seriously, you got a great thing going, don't let anyone steer ya different. Peace. P.S. I saw your review by Steve Gilmore but the song wouldn't play, so I randomly chose those songs. I'm glad I did. I will definitely be checking some more of your stuff soon. Keep me posted on anything new.

Hey Midge, welcome to the country boards! Post any time. I check the acoustic board posts all the time. So don't worry, it's OK. LOL I like Would You Say Yes and Fireworks. Make for real nice listens. I noticed your homeless support sign. Check out my song After She Is Gone. It's about a bag lady I used to see in Brooklyn, New York. I don't usually ask this, just thought you'd be interested.

Hey Midge, You've got some pretty good stuff, some of it reminds me of early Who for some reason like on Fireworks....The Ocean is alright too, overall I think the quality of the recordings are lacking a tad but as I said musically very well done.....

The Oceans Bring A Tear to My Eye by Midge McKay Critiqued by Steven Alan For an artist to create a song using only a guitar and voice is brave. Midge McKay gets his kudos for taking a risk. Every artist would not agree to do an acoustic song. The artist must really be capable or is ignorant to their lack of capability. In this case it is both. The vocals are nothing extraordinary but they are tolerable. The vocals are overshadowed by the music at times. Toward the end of the song there is a part where you can barely hear the artist’s voice. That should have been left in the outtake pile. It really qualifies as one of those WTF moments. The lyrics do have a message worth telling. They are morally awakening. The guitar playing is acceptable. No major surprises are waiting for the listener. At least no crimes of overproduction are committed. In the end acoustic songs are not the easiest songs to tackle. Once again kudos is given to Midge McKay for his brave attemp
