The CD Build the House Music for Mission Honduras is the culmination of a 2-year creative process. Michael began developing several of the songs in early 2006 with the idea of creating a benefit music project. When his church announced its partnership with two impoverished Honduran communities, Howard realized a true purpose for the project.
When the talks began about the Mission for Honduras, I began to see the importance of reaching out to others less fortunate than ourselves. Although I've been aware of how good we have it on many levels, the stories of the people in these communities began to stick in my head and knock me around a little. I'm just as guilty as the next guy when it comes to looking away from the uncomfortable things around me but it was very cleansing to suddenly open my eyes. We've got it pretty good, from the homes we build, to the food we can readily purchase and many times waste, to the cars we drive, the great schools and churches we attend, and the access to health services most of us take for granted. The people in these small towns truly need our help. Basic human needs like food, shelter, and clean water are scarce or unavailable. As a father, I began to think how helpless it must feel to be unable to provide food for my family. I know I would feel totally hopeless in the same situation. But these people continue to have hope! I know this is a long-term problem with no simple, easy, and quick solution.
100% of the proceeds from the sale of Build the House go directly to the mission fund. If each of us did just one thing to ease the burden a little, think about the relief we could collectively provide. That's why I think we need to do something. And in the end, I know we will grow too.
