Michael Courter, aka Mercian, has been playing guitar for 20 years. His style mixes a diverse array of instrumentals with singer/songwriter prog-folk-classic rock. Motivated by original music, he delivers with a creative and tasteful, guitar-centered approach.
When not playing guitar or writing music, Michael can be found writing novels. He is currently self-publishing the first book in his "Farewell to Kings" series, and writing the second novel, with cover artwork by friend and fellow fantasy novelist, Sasha Raught.Band/artist history
In the late 80's, Michael joined lyricist Sean Guess in the band Avenue 4D, driving a classic rock sound. His influence can be heard on Guess/Courter collaborations such as "Asbury" and "Do You Miss Me," and the classic Courter-twisted love song, "Teddybear." In the early 90's, Michael moved on, forming the band Mistreated. More recently, you can hear an instrumental version of his ballad, "Empty Beds Ahead," in the 2004 indie movie, . His favorite work has been the on-off projects with fellow guitarist, Michael Hunter, and percussionist, Scott Montulet, in the instrumental rock trio, Stonehenge.Have you performed in front of an audience?I'll be playing live with Ombient on the Dr. Cosmo show on WPRB on Friday night May 6th (check out www.wprb.com) and at the Cosmic Coffeehouse in Crosswicks, NJ on May 7.
