maria daines's SoundClick blog - Justice For Regina
Justice For Regina
Dear all,

Regina was a rescue dog living in Ribercan shelter in the town of Carcaixent Valencia, Spain. On 29th May 2008, thugs broke into the shelter and Regina was sexually abused, tortured and killed during the attack on the premises. Other dogs were frightened away from the shelter when their quarters were badly damaged but Regina was petrified and too timid to fight back. Shelter volunteers said they had only just begun to gain Regina's trust.

We hope this song will help to alert people to the distressing problem of animal cruelty in Spain. This crime has not been investigated by the Spanish police or authorities. Laws must be implemented in Spain to protect stray dogs like Regina from criminals who see them as easy targets. Animal abuse leads to human abuse.

The Bright Eyes Society has offered a financial reward to help catch the person or persons responsible for this terrible crime against an innocent creature. Download proceeds from this song will be sent to Bright Eyes to increase the reward and one day may there be for justice for Regina.

Best wishes

Stay strong , this is a fight that must be won . I know it must be hard at times .....but there are too few voices crying for Justice .
Animal Abuse can lead to Human Abuse ,Yes indeed .....I pray that your songs can open eyes and ears to what is going on . Then maybe change can occur within Human hearts and one day you will have to sing about something else ......but not this kind of abuse .

Thank you so much Tweak, your words encourage us and keep us strong. Yes I wish we didn't have to write about these things, what a great world it would be if there was no need to have to fight for justice. I want to make people aware that if we allow this behaviour towards defenceless animals in a supposedly safe shelter, then we will have to deal with the consequences when a thug like this goes on to harm children or people. The police have not even investigated this crime, the volunteers at the shelter feel afraid that they are also at risk, yet nothing has been done. So, hence, Regina's song. I hope for better animal protection laws in Spain in the future, and if by writing a song for this one poor dog might open people's eyes and encourage compassion towards the weakest beings in our society then it will be a worth all the sadness of hearing Regina's story, it upset me for days but creating music helps doesn't it. A great release of our emotions, musical people are lucky to be able to let their feelings out in song.

Bless you.

Great initiative, Maria!
And what a sad story. How sick can people be?
I´m saying this as somehone who´s got a dog and sometimes thinks this is a keystone of a REAL family with kids, and, well dogs!
Poor Regina. Thumbs up for your efoort!
I´ll check the song later!

Thank you so much Andreas, you write so eloquently and it's fantastic to have your support and encouragement, it really means a lot to us. Yes we have dogs in our family too and I can't imagine life without them, or imagine losing one of our dogs in a situation like this, it's unthinkable, sadly no animals are really safe in Spain from such callous acts of cruelty. I hope with many more voices speaking up world wide we can help to make a difference.

Best wishes to you smile :)

Thank you so much Dreamlight, it's very kind of you to leave such a positive and encouraging message and it's much appreciated. Sometimes it seems like a never ending road to help the animals but without people speaking up for them they are lost.

Best wishes

i can't tell you the amount of times that i've called the humane society on people regarding the treatment of their animals. and i can't count the number of times that they haven't been able to do anything about it because they 'have to witness the attack or abuse themselves." and i agree, animal abuse leads to human abuse. the same disregard for human life also leads to animal abuse. we're all fighting the same battle, maria, and you've put it into such a beautiful song, as you always do. with love and soul (and a little rock and a little roll.)
keep up the great work that you do - even if it seems like you get nowhere. as i've been saying with so many others, "peace starts here." i really look up to you.
