The Vara-Tones play high energy traditional surf rock in the instrumental style of Dick Dale, The Chantays, and the Surfaris. When the Vara-Tones originated in the early sixties, instrumental surf music was just making its debut. Leo Fender and Dick Dale were experimenting with the outboard reverb unit in conjunction with the Stratocaster and Showman amplifier to create what would be the forerunner to the 'heavy' rock sound. I'm a slider from way back but I love all kinds of music. I'm also a finger stylist. I'm Canadian, moved to Australia in 1975 after living in London for a few years. Settled in Sydney and lived there for 23 years. I played in many lineups: Richard Clapton, Marc Hunter, Glenn Shorrock, Sleeping Dogs, Chasin the Train, The Six Amigos. I specialize in slide guitar and acoustic finger style, and I played on scores of Aussie albums, dozens of sound tracks and hundreds of commercials over tha...
Acoustic blues solo act Um...let's see...I was born in 1971 and I live in Montreal, Canada. I play lots of different kinds of music, but some of my favorite stuff to play is country blues. I don't think I'll ever sound like any of my musical heroes, and I sure as hell can't like any of 'em, but I have a pretty good time trying, especially when the booze is flowing freely. These recordings are all done live, singin' and playin' in one take, no overdubs, warts'n'all.

I guess you could say we are 'studio junkies'. We spend many hours a week in my home studio writing and recording music. On all the recordings here at our site, Jimmy Joe Long does the guitar and vocals, Don Lacy does drums and percussion, and I (Don Carroll) do all of the other parts.
