Songwriting is more like mental ramming of your head to a wall. Walls don’t have to be plaster and board. They can be and are most often the figurative of the mind, the heart, the soul. Walls are the metaphor for echoing the past, the happy or sad voices of our history. Jimmy Webb once penned a song with this title, relating the stories of the people who had passed through a house, the mother with her first born, the alcoholic with his bottle, the couple making love, the children in their laughter, the elderly living out their declining years. That song is like the biography of the brick and morter that begin, close in, and eventually protect or imprison the people within the plaster echoes….. Most people think that songwriting is a 10 minute process, whereby you pen 32 lines of poetry, paper clip a title, and play a few chords. Voila! Music, A hit!. My god, the pain that I’ve been through to write some of my lyrics! Most are done in the still of the night, and with tortured words, knifing through my soul, lines applied to paper or computer, wracked out of my burning thoughts, the things that you hear and read.

Hello Wayne: I owe you a huge apology. I have been a stranger with so many people even with my own family lately. Just trying to juggle all the areas of life can be overwhelming sometimes. Not a complaint...just the truth. But life is good. I need to write you a good e-mail and I will. On the song, I have not worked on the melody. I have your lyrics hanging on my wall, daily reminder that I need to work on it. But when is the question. It used to be a matter of sitting down with my guitar and I'd have the melody in minutes. Now, it is a matter of changing my whole frame of mind....not so easily done. Don't worry about me. I am fine :) I need to listen to your new material. I know I am up to a good treat! Have a Blessed Easter. LIFE DAY.
