Matt Sullivan is an internationally recognized oboist whose work has been described by The New York Times and the New Yorker as "gorgeously lyrical playing" and "cutting edge". He began his career as a teenager playing with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and went on to study with oboe greats like Carl Sonik, Ray Still, Marc Lifschey, Bert Lucarelli and Ronald Roseman. His innovative compositions for oboe, English horn, and digital horn along with his solo and chamber music performances and recordings on compact discs have been featured on local and national radio stations including NPR’s Chamber Music New York broadcast of his 50th Birthday Recital in May of 1999. Sullivan’s solo performances include concerts with Cyndi Lauper at Carnegie Hall to such films as Miller’s Crossing. Matt Sullivan has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Library of Congress, the Palladium, Roulette, The Kitchen, and CBGB. Sullivan served as a master teacher on the faculties of Long Island University C. W. Post, the Manhattan School of Music Prep Division, Rutgers University, The European Mozart Academy in Warsaw, and Princeton University. He is a tenured member of the faculty at Chamber Music Northeast (Benninton College, VT) and has been a member of Quintet of the Americas since 1982. Matt Sullivan, Director of Double Reed Studies at NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, is a Performing Artist for Buffet Crampon and as such plays exclusively on Buffet oboes.
