I thought I'd keep it positive, I thought I'd bring you joy, I thought I'd take the negative and rid you of it all. I am both pleased and saddened to announce the release of my new single 50 SHOTS. I wanted my next single to be a positive and uplifting one, but the verdict of the Sean Bell case has forced the band (The Third Cup) and me to immediately address the use of excessive force by our protectors. Seriously, how many shots does it take, especially with no shots being fired back? Amadou Diallo - shot 41 times on Feb 4, 1999 while reaching for his wallet. A jury unanimously voted to acquit the officers of all charges. - shot 4 times (twice in the back) on May 22, 2003 while fleeing a police officer dressed as a postal worker with a gun. The officer was placed on probation for 5 years loosing his job with the NYPD. We have a problem here. So, with this latest incident, officers shot an unarmed man on the eve of his wedding, and did not even receive so much as a verdict of negligence. It is a slap in the face of everyone who loves freedom and expects justice, especially as citizens of the United States. If we have to live by the law, so do the keepers of the law. I will support the NYPD, but they have to support we the people. I have to trust my protector to consider him my protector. This song was recorded as a musical statement. Reggae as always addressed the issues of the day. In continuing the legacy of Marley, Tosh and the strugglers past and present, we offer you 50 SHOTS by EliJAH & The THIRD CUP. Tell someone. 1Love
