NEW ALBUM for 2024
Nov 5, 2024
It’s becoming a bit of an annual tradition this, but the albums keep coming! Odd Harmonics is a collection of 10 songs spanning multiple genres and topics, hopefully none of them on a predictable path. Still mining the rich vein that was 2021, these tunes were all written in that year and there are still a few more to do before I move on to 2022, 3 & 4. Hopefully there will be some new developments in 2025 if I can get my s*** together but meanwhile please head over to my music page and have a listen to Odd harmonics. Best listened to in a darkened room - you might need a lie down afterwards I know I did
So this is it

So we're finally on the move - leaving Staffordshire which has been our home for 35 years and relocating to our beloved Northumberland. To mark the occasion there's a new song up on my music page - "Wild Blue Wherever" take a listen!
NEW ALBUM October 2023. How We Fade.
Sep 28, 2023
[media] Well here it is (cheesy fanfare) - the 17th Smivets album all ripe and ready to rock your various worlds. A bit earlier than my usual December release slot - I've been writing songs much faster than recording them so I'm trying to catch up a bit. That said I've still got about 3 years' stuff already in the queue and more keeps appearing somehow, so must press on. Most of these tunes were written in 2021 and, although not intended as any kind of concept album, they do seem to hang together nicely as a song collection with some common themes running through. A lot of it concerns the nature of dreams of various sorts and whether they end up becoming your reality at some point. Plus the usual rantings of a grumpy old bugger. Anyhoo, here it is, exclusively released as a free download on Soundclick and Bandcamp, with wider release to all major streaming platforms due later in the month. Hope you enjoy it - please let me know.
NEW ALBUM 2022!
Dec 9, 2022
WE. ARE NOT. COSMONAUTS As disappointingly true as this might be, the good news is that the new Smivets album is now available for your listening pleasure. 10 brand new songs songs written over the course of 18 months between 2019 and 2021. So I suppose it could be my Lockdown album, and there are a couple of tunes that deal with that, but most are on other themes. A bit proggier perhaps than some of my previous efforts but that's just how the songs fell out this time rather than any grand design. Anyway hope you'll listen and hopefully enjoy it - head over to The Smivets artist page and you'll see it on the Albums tab.
March 2020

https://soundclick.com/r/s8klw8 Anyone remember March 2020? Strange and frightening times - suddenly overnight on the 23rd of March normal life (at least in the UK) stopped. Of course no one could predict that we'd be still dealing with a pandemic 2 years later but there it is. New song "Heading for Lockdown" with my feelings at the time.

Hi Steve . How’s the album coming along?
New cover up here . Very challenging keys wise ! Might not be your cup of tea and I’m gonna have to take a lye down now !

Cheers Steve . Will check one out but the local music stores don’t have any stock . you have to pre order . I might just take a chance and order one . All the Yamaha’s my students have are great quality, even the cheaper ones so I can’t imagine after that and what you say I would regret getting one .

Hi Steve . I saw on David’s page about you getting a Yamaha AC5r . I’m after a top end acoustic . You obviously love it . I do have a Fender paramount pm 3 acoustic which is great a mid range priced guitar and that’s what you hear on my recordings . I do have a cheaper low priced Yamaha APX 500 which is incredible for the price and I use it for practicing and teaching so I know how good Yamaha are . I was also thinking Taylor or Gibson but they are really pricey . As you think the AC5R is really good I might go with that .

Hi Steve, yes, the latest Yamaha Revstar models are really making an impact now it seems. People are catching on. I have a first series 420 but the new Rss20 is one I'd really like...stainless steel frets...what's not to like about that feature alone!
Allan Hull of Lindisfarne always played Yamaha acoustics.
One of my long time friends is in a band called, This Machine. They play around Newcastle and surronding areas. They play Classic and Heavy rock. Not my cup of tea unfortunately.
I made up a CD of your songs from a few of your albums. I play it in the car and in the house too.
What fun we have, being able to play and record our own music.

Thanks for the listens and great reviews on the 2 FM tracks . Really appreciate it as always as I know you are busy with your own project which I’m looking forward to hearing . I’m gonna get back to writing myself and see what I can come up with . Cheers Steve

Hi Steve, I've aways struggled to create a suitable XTC patch on the guitar processors that I've owned.
I have now and all it was, is a convincing Marshall amp just on the point of break-up. A touch of compression and an Andy Partridge attitude.
Now I need to learn how to play, No Language in Our Lungs and Respectable Street...mmm, a steep learning curve for sure.
