Finding the key in GarageBand

Usually the note you start on is the key. You play the notes of your vocals on piano and figure out what note it starts with. You change that to your key, then you change the scale to all white keys. You check your melody out on the white keys to make sure it’s right because it may be in a minor key. If it’s in a minor you have to change your scale to minor. Then I change it back to white and black keys because the visual pattern makes it easier to play. You have to tap out the tempo to figure that out and then you record a few bars. Give yourself a few bars in case you make mistakes. Find the perfect 8 bars or so. Quantize it and copy and paste some bars. Give yourself plenty of space. Switch your keyboard to chords. Put the number dial on one or two. Try and find a simple progression of at least two chords that matches your notes. Sometimes I check a list available on the internet. A neat trick someone told me is that if you use more than one finger on the chord bar you get different patterns of chords. Once you figure out your progression and key you can do all sorts of things. Read about GarageBand. Take a course on music theory. It’s like doing math with a calculator.

You are never going to see TikTok videos on television. I guess I’m crazy to think I’m ever gonna be on the radio. Even if I had a million streams it’s only going to be a few thousand.
I’ve been putting music on the net since 97 or 98. I’ve paid my dues.
Almost all my music has been instrumental. All these years I hardly had any lyrics but now I’m getting a flood. I’ve written almost ten songs in the last 4 days. I write and then I go through my massive catalog of instrumentals and find something that fits.
I have to pay to master it. On that over service I might make 8 or 9 dollars for my whole catalog so far. It takes 3.99 to master something so I am still not making any money.
Maybe somebody will hear something and cover it idk. Cross my fingers and pray. I’m getting old. I’m worried about what’s going to happen to me in my old age. I don’t want to end up in some backwards nursing home.

Sometimes it takes a while over on that other service and I’m not putting anything over there that doesn’t monetize so there is going to be stuff here that isn’t there. All my music will still be here and you will always hear it here first
