Remembering old school memory one day a special assembly was arranged in the main school hall.We all sat around no clue what was going on, in walks Johnny Nash and proceds to give us a mini concert his accompaniment was provided by none other than the late great Bob marley who at the time as unheard of.The two of them were in the uk to promote johnny nash new single ,stir it up written by Marley it was due to this mini self promo tour that Bob Marley was spotted by Chris Blackwell head of Island records and the rest is music history.Tv series the Fugitive with David janssen from the 60s remember the theme music had a sax solo that so captured the mood and the solitary world of the main chracter, sounds say so much..

So the great Miles was not far away the band was warming up ,but all of a sudden everything went into reverse the band members put down there instruments and trooped back of stage, the soundsystem was switched back on ,looks like there was going to be a delay, after about ten minutes people were getting a bit restless, when thankfully the band members walked back on stage again,to great applause and shouting followed by Miles looking cool but serious ,he broke into a full smile when he recognised someone in the audience,he then went into a on stage brief with his players, this was like no concert that I have been to,getting on for ten minutes on stage and miles hardly noticed his huge audience there was no showmanship from no one the main focus was the music! tonight.
The band suddenly kicked into action with that thunderous bass line that was "Tutu" when Miles entered the action with his tight muted blowing the audience goes wild that cool sound just complements the fantastic bass playing of foley,K Garett took on the live sax sections again cool playing after each solo Miles held up big cards with the artists name on them, the first half of concert was mostly of the" tutu "album, after the interval two cover songs were next "time after time" and "human nature"and miles versions just brought the house down.
One thing I noticed miles did was to have a zen like focus on every sound the band was making,he wasn`t ignoring the audience he was just so focussed on listening and on creating his art that was his priority .I am glad I saw him because he passed away a couple of years later. When "doo bop came out in 92 I made a tape for the car and one evening was giving a freind a lift home a person who did not like jazz prefering dub ,house ,garage etc, hearing the first two or three tracks from Miles last album he mouthed" who the f--- is that that is great!"that was the miles effect.
