Go ahead and cry...
Mar 22, 2007

Well, I wrote a song. It's way harder than it looks I think, at least it was for me. I got some great advice from several people and one was almost a challenge so I made it a goal and did this.
It's about my Granddaughter Ivy, she is 4 and out of all the grandkids she is the one that gets teary eyed the most often. In a big busy family this is a problem and of course it's also just a phase but she is struggling with it. I really don;t mind though. I adore her so much, we share the same birthday after all. I see her cry and all I want to do is hug her. Well, there's a song I guess. Nothing earth shattering, just a Grampa's observations and affirmations for one of his favorite people in the whole world.
I was going to wait to post this until I got a better take this week but since I ended up with a very case of intestinal flu I haven't been able to stop throwing up long enough to play the whole thing through again. This will be my entry into the Jam Session songwriting contest so maybe I can get better and do a much better take next week after my throat recovers but I really wanted to share some of this with my friends here.
I hope you enjoy it, at least a little, and please feel free to help out with any pointers of suggestions....

Tip that Waitress
Feb 19, 2007
Well, this weeks song is "Tip That Waitress" by Loudon Wainwright III. My teacher says it's a must learn as it can have a very real effect on your tab when playing out... :)
This is a first attempt and as usual has it's share of poorly fingered chords and messed up lyrics, flat singing and so on. I will not be leaving this one up like this but sometime during the week will update the song with the current version. Hopefully in a week I will have it pretty much down.
This song is really here to get me to finally stop avoiding the barred F chord. The progression, if you want to play along, is C, Am, F, G, no capo. The Bridge is Em C, Em G...
Let me know what you think of the recording this time, I know the playing and singing needs work but I have done some adjusting of the recording chain and was wondering what you thought of it. As always any feedback will be welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks so much for all of you who listened to my Granddaughter Ivy's song this weekend. It meant the world to her and to me too! If you missed it check my artist page link on the left and go to my Music page, the song is "Everybody is my Friend" Ivy is 4 years old and I thought she did a great job...

Ivy and Grampa do
Feb 18, 2007

Well, my Grand-baby Ivy, age 4, did some singing in the Barn with Grampa last night. It's a great song and I hope you guys like it! If it has moved off the front page please click on my artist page link to the left and then go to my Music. It's a such fun to make music with someone you love, give it a try!

We also added a song called this little light of mine by Ivy's Sister Amber! It's on my music page, Amber is 7 and she is also just cute as a button. In her song she was dancing and acting like a real performer while she sang it! I was wishing I had some video of it at the time. Check them both out and leave them a comment here if you like, they are both now hooked on music and Grampa Snoopy is hooked on them! :D

Learning a new song
Feb 10, 2007

Well, if anybody has been watching this site over the last few days you saw me post a song I started learning on Wednesday, Angel from Sarah McLachlan. It was the song of my music lesson and I wanted some help from my friends on the Acoustic Guitar Magazine Beginners Forum so I posted a very rough take that day.
Been working on it since and on Friday afternoon I posted a progress report version but I still really didn't like it yet, Went over to visit my new Grandson, Oliver and came home and worked on it until about 1:00am this morning, Saturday. I recorded it at that point and I think I really like it.
Still a few rough points in it but all my stuff will have that. The thing is once I have it then I will work on it and play it for the next few weeks. In a month I will be doing it at an open mic or some such thing. Thanks for the interest in the process and for putting up with the intermediate versions. I really appreciate all the encouragement and all the nice responses.
On another note I have been looking around on craigslist to find some people to play with in my area. I really do want to find something regular to do with other people, or at least one other person. I would love to find somebody to sing some harmony with. Well, I was of course looking for some other old married guys to have a garage band or weekly jam or something but I actually answered an ad from a lady vocalist who is looking for somebody to do some gigs. I really want to try this eventually but I might be able to pull it off at this point. Depends on what she is looking for.
I figure that my biggest advantage is that I won't make her boyfriend jealous! Anyway, we shall see what shakes out. I am having a blast learning to make some music and I really appreciate the ability to share with my online friends. As I said in the interview on my band page, it's a very small demographic of beginning musicians in their 40s and 50s or there abouts. I never would have found folks like this in my area. Running into them online was the Bomb!
I am amazed that so many people have been so danged nice to me on Soundclick, listening to my feeble efforts along the way and actually being so encouraging and uplifting with the comments and continued support. I wish I could thank everybody personally.
Since that won't work you will just have to be happy knowing that you have my gratitude and that my prayers for your own success will be sent on a regular basis.
God Bless and have a great musical week!
