ARTISTES PROFILE (5 MICS) Born in the early 1980s, real name Stanley .I. Ikegbulam is first of five children Nickname “5mics” which was named as a status for his rap skillz also earned by known rap acts likes Nas, Jay-Z etc. Parents Mr Ben and Mrs Felicia Ikegbulam who both hail from the East side of Nigeria, Imo state, made sure 5mics was exposed to anything and everything in his environment, 5mics is a devout Christian and a deep thinker who likes to listen to neo-soul, rock, jazz, afro-beat and also loves the ladies and likes to chill. 5mics attended (HOPEBAY COLLEGE and FESTAC COLLEGE) and now has Bsc in Business Administration from the University of Abuja.He started rapping in 1996 and was influenced and grew up listening to Nas, EPMD, Biggie smalls, 2pac, Rakim, Eight Ball, Boot camp Click, Wutang, KRS One, LL cool J, Def squad, Ruff Ryders and many more.In the same year he hooking up with his first group “Naughty Immigrants” the group disbanded soon after without even making it to the radio. After moving to Abuja, the unfazed and determined rapper moved ahead to ally with a new group NFS (No Fear Squad) in the town of Karu. A town that has housed ill mc’s like Modenine, Overdose, KOM, and more, the singles got a handful of airplay in Abuja before once again the group parted ways due to various reasons. Still persistent, 5mics went on solo with his career as an MC. Doing freestyles and battle shows on radio stations or underground concerts. From freestyling 5mics release his mixtape “tha 5th Element”. The mixtape stayed on the shelf for 3 years before being poorly released, without even the impact of top charting tracks like “U wan try?”, “Bounce (gba gbe)”, “Gemini ft Mode9”. 5mics is presently signed to MUSIC HOUSE LIMITED to release his debut album “THE BEST KEPT SECRET”. Now recording the album with features from M.I, African Rockstar and others. Music house released thee singles in 2008 to help thrust 5mics from the underground to mainstream “Black girl ft seun”, “E don tey”, and “the struggle ft African Rock star”. The video for the struggle was shot in Lagos in Jan 2008 it was followed by E don tey shot in Abuja in October 2008 this video is presently the best video out of Abuja and it is steadily ridding the airwaves. The album due for release later in 2009 is promised to be the hottest thing out of this region.
