A Walk with Life

We walked and we talked from sunrise to sunset,
About heroes and kings and strangers he'd met.
We walked across time we walked through the years,
We shared sadness and gladness,laughter and tears.
He spoke of the many who walked on before,
How much some had wanted to walk so much more.
Some grew tired, some grew faint,
Some were bitter, some were quaint.
Soon it was my time to rest and to sleep,
To dream on forever in a sleep so deep.
We said our goodbyes for me time now ends,
But he walks on to find new friends.

Adoration for Creation

Let the wind blow, the rivers flow,
The earth proclaim her beauty.
With her rainbows after the rain goes,
She flaunts about her purity.
The crystal seas and the nice cool breeze,
Shake hands with the ocean.
They greet the days with highest praise,
Of fluctuating notion.
The palm trees high, hail the clear blue sky,
Like old friends reunited.
As the mockingbird sings and flaps her wings,
So the night comes uninvited.
Now all is at peace, every creature, every beast,
Declaring the day's end.
Til' the morrow to rise, when a new baby cries,
The world meets a new creature, a new friend.

Talent Xposition of the Arts

The New Self-Help Community Foundation presented Talent Xposition of the Arts at the Harquail Theatre on Sunday, 28 June.
Talent Xposition of the Arts has become a highlight in Cayman’s culture, art and entertainment scene, and has traditionally mixed different performing arts genres with the visual arts. This year, Artist Al Ebanks’ work was on display in the theatre lobby, with two strong monochromatic portraits, and an abstract painting. There were also examples of artwork by Triple C students.
The strength of Talent Xposition is its sheer range, as the event always manages to showcase some of the very best upcoming Caymanian talent, not only in singing and dancing, but in slightly more unusual forms too. This year’s event was no different, with several powerful poetry performances from local poets Michael Blackburn, Jevaughie Ebanks, Roberta Jefferson and Carrie McCoy.
During the first half of the show someone to take note of in the Rising Star section is surely Rico Orrett, who sang his song with a powerful, sure voice.
George Town Primary students were next with a colourful display of traditional quadrille dancing.
Tamara Calder was one of the shining lights of the first half of the show, singing in a soulful R&B style. Her presentation was professional and polished as she sang, and had the presence of a true star.
During the second half of the show, Jamsette Anglin appeared, singing her new song. She was soon joined by her younger brother, Jonathan, who sang along with her.
Lloyd Barker is a singer who always hits every note perfectly, making it look so easy, and he got down off the stage and mingled with the audience.
Giggz (stage name for Cameron Bodden), a young reggae singer who writes his own songs, appeared onstage towards the end of the show.
The show concluded with a performance from Kri dancers.
