When it comes to music, I can definitely say that I'm knowledgeable of the subject. From vocals to instruments I can arrange, write and appreciate everything that music entails. I admit I can't listen to anything (and I listen to everything) without breaking every sound down to individual parts. I sometimes wish I was still in High School (the great Cass Technical), where I received my vocal and music theory training. I'm a student and a slave of music. It consumes me in every way and takes me to a place that no drug could ever take me.
My favorite genre is Classical. I confessed to you all sometime ago that my favorite piece to air direct is the theme to Beetlejuice. Sure, laugh again but if you heard it like I hear it, it might be one of the best scores you've ever heard. I went back to my High School shortly after graduation to speak with my old choir teacher, Mr. Grobe. He was delighted to see me and we talked publically in front of the class. Out of the blue he asked me to teach the class the song "Ave Maria" by the composer Charles Gounod. (goo-node) I was nervous but honored by his request, (actually, it was more of a command) and I did it...the way Mr. Grobe would've. That's what I like to do. Teach music, instill awareness, and generate an appreciation of music from those around me.
I was chatting with an old friend on IM one evening and she confessed to me that she watches this certain video all the time. She was almost embarrassed to forward it to me, but when she did, I saw her in a whole new light. It's the great Bobby McFerrin and he's doing a one-man show. Now Bobby is a musical genius.
