If there is one thing I have learnt over the years its that mixing and mastering music is a highly specialised skill. I am still an amateur however I have learnt a few things and recently decided to start up a project to re-work all the songs first by migrating them from my Boss Micro to a Boss BR800 and then remix and remaster the tracks making a few corrections and embellishments along the way. Im pretty sure that I can get at least a 20-30% improvement in quality. It will be a time consuming project and I expect it to last for between 9 months and a year. Re-worked songs will be placed higher up in the play order so check them out and may God bless you and speak to your heart through them for thats what its all about!
Choosing a title for a song can be tricky. Seldom do i get it right however occassionally it comes delivered on a plate, so to speak, and this was one such occassion. I was reading Psalm 49 recently and the words just jumped out of the page.In the psalm he writes in verse 14: "This is the fate of those who trust in themselves.. their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions" Korah picked up his harp and expounded a riddle in song, the riddle concerning the fate of the rich and powerful. Although written some 3000 years ago the message is ageless. Inspired by his psalm I too picked up my guitar and wrote this modern take on the same topic.
A record of the world's first homicide is recorded in the book of Genesis. When questioned about his involvement in the incident the chief suspect, a man by the name of Cain, responded with the words 'Am I my brothers keeper?' I have always found it intriguing that there is no record of God ever answering that question. Fast forward a few thousand years and another man asked Jesus 'Who is my neighbour?' and thereby by implication what is my responsibility towards him or her? In replying Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan The song 'Jericho' is my take on this.
King Solomon lived to be over 1005 songs old (I Kings 4:32). I can only find the 'Song Of Solomon' so what happened to the other 1004? Did he write them all down? As for me, I dont keep count but just keep pressing on. Lately I have been working on two fronts, sifting through the backlog of the old material which I never got round to doing anything before, with a view to recording them, whilst at the same time working on something new. It would seem some songwriters are blessed with an overabundance of creativity. They write at least one song a day and that usually before breakfast. For me it is a real struggle, like hammering away against a rock face with a toothepick and each time when i have pressed the STOP button on the recorder on the final Master track, instead of a feeling of achievement and accomplishment there is just a sense that I really could have done better and so I am driven on to the next project. Anyway Psalm 139 is my latest effort, a paraphrase of the well known and loved Psalm of David. I hope someone somewhere will be blessed by it.
