i need to compress this mix in order to offer you all more than a measly 5mins. shockingly, it has made 126 on the house charts in 3 short days in spite of the fact that only the first 3 mixes of the set are intact here. for now, you can listen to the entire set @ https://www.zshare.net/audio/5138294517cc03c5/
bare in mind that this is zshare and it will be taken down quite soon, so get it while its up.

halloween:
Nov 6, 2008
madison's once vibrant electronic music scene has been reduced to ruble over the past couple of years. venues shutting their doors (either to the scene or just in general), and a political climate that has no doubt stunted the careers of many of the finest disc jockeys this town ever played host to.
since 2007 i have played live only a handful of times here in spite of being close to most of the major players. several months ago i had the great fortune of meeting one of the more refined and well reputed DnB djs in the country, dj julliette (prissCo, SLC) who for whatever reason took enough of a liking to me that she eventually became a proponent of mine.
id like to do some compare and contrast here before i get ahead of myself.
i was booked here in madison for a halloween show, show that she might well have found herself playing as well if she hadnt taken a booking in salt lake the same night. obviously the 2 cities have an enormous population difference, but its professionalism or lack there of that i hold in question.
i was scheduled to play the late set at the above party on 10/31. here in madison halloween is a sort of sweeps day for local law enforcement. on the day in question i received a phone call from my tag team partner saying that the promoter hadnt spoken to anyone since tuesday the 28th, and had failed to show up to the space at the planned 8:30 meeting time. basically the inmates were running the asylum. we both had major doubts that the party would go the full 9 hours it was scheduled for. since i live on the outskirts of town i was seriously considering not even showing up until i received a second call from said partner (who was pleasantly inebriated by this time), saying the space was full, and although he was too drunk to play, he thought i should at least come out. he sited
the fact that i had done about three blind sessions with his records @ his studio and sounded as good or better than most people sound when they have their track selection down and practiced as his primary reason for persuading me. i arrived at about 230 am. about an hour later the cops showed up. the venue didnt have the proper permissions and permits on hand, and the place had become a major fire hazard. my fiance (drummer laura kim) and i staved them off at the back, but they apparently mad it in the front by force. everyone but the residents had high tailed it out of there inside a matter of minutes. i had my cdj100s and mixer with me, and laura had been keeping watch over them in the back stairwell just behind the dj booth. keep in mind that none of us were being payed for our services as talent, when you read this next part. as i went to grab up my things and vacate the premisses i was halted by some disgruntled fuck asking me for the serial numbers on my equipment. his intentions no doubt were to rob me. thanks to a local dj and my fiance this wasnt allowed to happen. i could go on but i think the general idea has been communicated. it should be noted that there was alcohol on hand w/o a liquor license.
now roll the clock back 2hours (PST) to slc where friend and colleague dj.julliette was playing a monster party at a space reported to hold 8000. djs were booked and contracted months in advance (as they should be) and payed as soon as the arrived. to my knowledge l enforcement has better things to do out west than break the walls down at events such as this, no doubt due in part to the fact that promoters have their collective shit together for the most part and dont just wing it with seven barrels of beer while lacking all of the permissions and permits i mentioned earlier. i received several text messages over the coarse of the evening from julliette, who seemed to be having a wonderful time without worry that her personal affects would be stolen, due no doubt to competent security.

mixed message
Nov 6, 2008
so obviously mixed message didnt make the cut this summer. i found myself having to re-learn everything i know in regards to live mixing when i traded up from analog (mk1200s) to digital (cdj100s). i had learned the 1000s in 2006, but just couldnt afford them.
if you are a frustrated turntablist finding it increasingly hard or expensive to get ahold of pressings, i urge you to dump your tables in lou of either of the above. my style doesnt require alot of trickery (not to say i dont have the capacity, i most certainly do) so the 100s filled in fine for me. if you have the money the 1000s are wonderful, but we are in major recession and i doubt you do (starving artist syndrome :( ). mixed message will no doubt be finished before the end of the year. its just a matter of grabbing up the right mixdown software @ this point, and i find myself becoming increasingly picky about this sort of thing as of late.
p.s. if you wonder why i chose to omit denon's line of cdjs, i can tell you with utter certainty that they are junk. i know plenty of people that would disagree, but these tend to be the type of people that dont get overly concerned about the little things, such as the lack of any sort of tangible anti skating on stanton turntables.

some old flyer art/ mixed message
Jul 26, 2007
was passing thru my old flyers from a residency i held at the portal a while back and thought id share these 2. they were done by a personal friend and the shows were something special. if they catch your eye and you would like to contact him see: cut aka cutfucker(mnml.efrt/ bassgoesboom/ secret studios).
mixed message is slated for a summer release. it will utilize pioneer cdj100s instead of mk1200s. these bad boys are not the easiest things in the world to manipulate, so once i have them mastered the show will begin. please be patient as new content WILL be available here as soon as possible.
