A Soldiers Lament

Soldiers Lament Copywrite 1996
Written by; Gary Powers
A man, young and hardy, left on a plane
Soon to be living his dream
A land across the ocean that he'd never seen
A war thats raging awaits him
To serve for the honor, a battle of fear
His comrades beside him no longer can feel
The love of his brother, no one comes to near
And his dream turns to nightmare it seems
The promise of glory, a patriots pride
A hero's welcome at home
That's why we're going, they said with their lies
Don't forget that you won't be alone
There's others just like you with thoughts in their heads
Just look all around you but don't count the dead
They've all had their glory now lie in their bed
And it soon will be your turn instead
Wake up all you soldiers and see what you've done
You've given the greed mongers something to run
It was there for the taking so they took it for fun
And left a trail of you.......lying in blood
Now he sits in this cold damp cell that he calls home
Thinking back how they told him he won't be alone
And he yearns for the sweet smell and sounds of the past
Realizing they've all gone, leaving him cast
Off with his captors who feed on his soul
If only they'd let him write letters to home
He's sure they'd come get him after all this time gone
But there's no one that knows he's alone
So he screams for his momma, he cries for his dad
His sounds go unanswered, if only he had
Died in that battle, there's freedom that's found
In the death of a soldier.......a long way from home
Is there ever an ending to such a sad tale
Or is it just one big circle of stories to tell
Will we ever be free of this capital greed
Is it something that drives us, something we need
They make their excuses and reasons for war
They say it is ethnic, or they do it for God
We all know the reason, they just want more
'cause what they have just isn't enough
So wake up all you people and see where you've gone
Your road is in ruin, your time has begun
With broken comandments you've sealed your fate
And I think it just might be to late

Biorythmn Merry-Go-Round
Apr 12, 2007
Written by; Gary Powers
A biorythmn merry-go-round,
A roller coaster ride of waves.
The highs and lows of feelings felt,
Dependent on which day.
The fervent swings of moods you have
From one extreme then back,
Unable to choose the path you take,
Not sure of how you'll act.
Good spirits or sour grapes,
It's seldom inbetween.
A searching, driving, unseen force
That guides each move you make.
How is it that this curving line,
With it's valleys and it's hills,
Mandate every move you'll make
Before the time has spilled?
Could it be the shaded moon,
Each quarter has it's own
Effect on lives of living souls
Pre-determined how you'll grow.
Or could it be the seasons change
Of summer leaves to snow?
That leaves one in a wanting state
Not knowing where to go.
How can someone plagued by this,
Whose been dragged down in the mud,
Rise up only slightly out
Feeling still his one foot stuck.
How can he control his line,
To keep his curve above,
The lows of valleys deep below
And the moodiness that comes.
To be aware before it takes
Control of the time.
To "nip it in the bud" and seek
All thats good about the line.
Is this something that you have,
A choice on how you feel?
Or has it all been written out
Before you get to deal?
Each hand thats played of waking days
And dreams of your sleep,
Hard to believe it's all been planed
To each your own to keep.
But so it is and here you are
Trudging up the hills,
Going with the rolling waves
And the roller coaster thrills.
