I don't think that even with my experience that I would even be able to make it professionally. I just can crank out 20 beats a day like these other cats on soundclick. I can make a beat or 2 in maybe 3 weeks. But then agian, I'm just one person, alot of these cats on here have a few poeple in their squad and they all work on joints together. I'm just 1 man in a bedroom with a midi keyboard that don't even know how to play it. Theres some really talented people here on SC and sometimes they make it hard to catchup. I guess they help keep you on your toes and keep you stepping your game up. I swear though, some of the elements / drumrolls they come up with makes me bust a sweat haha, But it's all good. Either way, I'm going to treat this page as a beat diary. I think right now I'm at the level where I still have room to grow, but I'm better than what I was. Holla at me
Figured it's about time I start posting up on here. I had this soundclick since 01 i think and have yet to actually post anything. Let me begin with how everything got started. At first I thought my soundclick page was going to be a way to make money and showcase my abilities. Waaay back when I made this account, I was part of a site that was for producers called H1phop.com where we would go to do beat battles. We're talkin 01-02, and that's where most of my beats on my page came from, as entries into the tourneys. Since I fell of the beat scene since then, I look at this page as a chart of progress. I think this page really shows how my abilities have grown and evolved over the years. When I first started making music, I didn't have any money, so the only shit I could afford was FLstudio, with out any sample packs or nothing, strickly stock sounds. This was probably in 98-99 back when FLstudio was just Fruityloops. I didn't know shit about music, or music theory and to be honest, I really still don't, but back then I only had the aspirations of one day becoming as good as the heavyweights like mannie fresh, timbaland. Unlike how easy it is for people to get started on music productions nowadays, back then I strictly said FUCK using premade loops, FUCK using any reconizeable sounds (like for example, that snar that timbo used to use all the time) FUCK even using Arps, and FUCK any book on the subjects. I felt that If I was gonna make music, I don't want any help whatsoever. I wanted to see if someone without any training, without any assistance from anything, could make a beat that could rival someone with more knowledge, training, talent. And now almost 13 years after I started this journey, I think by doing that I've really slowed my progress. When I listen back on tracks, I think "well I only been making music for 3-4 years at said time, so that sounds pretty good" But then I compare to what some people do in 1 year, and I realize that I just made shit unreasonably harder on myself. Instead of listening and learning from what other beatmakers was doing, I decided to do my own thang. Coming from strictly software without any hardware, I think that also hurt my progression. It's funny to think that for the first, maybe 3-4 years, I didn't really even use 1 single chord in my beats. I really don't use progression like I should still, but whatever. One of the main reasons I never update my page is, everytime I make a beat, once I move on to the next beat, when I hear that last beat, it just sounds like some shit from 10 years ago. Maybe thats just because of how many times I have to listen to it while in the process of making it that it gets played out to me, I dunno. But either way, after that I never want to upload that last beat, so I get stuck in a cycle. Then I don't wanna upload the beat I just finished because I get lazy, I hear things in it that needs to be fixed but don't feel like fixing them, or a patturn I should put in but don't feel like sequencing it. So in essence the current beat is never finished and feels half assed, even tho I KNOW I can make the beat better. I also think what hurts my music is that I don't have some decent monitors for mixing. Sure some bottom of the barrel standard monitors would cost me like $150 for the basic, but I just don't feel like even buying them. I guess thats part of the problem with making music for 13+ years, I don't have the same passion as I did in the beginning. I make music now because I wouldnt be able to live with myself if I quit after this long, but I don't really have the motivation to actually try to blow up anymore. I guess my focus switched from making millions, to just being a hobby. Just to say, or show that I can make music, like how people put together ships in bottles. Eitherway, I think from now on I'll put my beats up here for $1 lease, while exclusives
