We were invited to appear on "The Good Life", on NET-TV, which broadcasts from Kearney, Nebraska. It's like an on-air magazine that presents articles of interest about Nebraska. I had written a song called "I Wish George Jones Would Listen to My Songs!", and they asked us to perform it live. A member of the "Nashville Songwriters Association International" chapter in Lincoln, Nebraska watched the show, loved the song, and is taking it to Nashville to try to get it in George's hands! I think it would make him laugh, and I would just be thrilled to think that George Jones himself actually listened to a song I wrote! What FUN!
I've written quite a few songs in my life. We recently visited a unique church in a small town on the great plains of Nebraska, hence the name. It's locvated in Goehner, Nebraska, and it began as a Bible study in a building that once was their Grange Hall, then became a melodrama theater! The Bible study grew into a church, and they decided to retain the informal flavor of the theater. (They don't carry that informality to the scriptures, however, Their preaching and teaching is definitely Bible-based.) The tables and chairs that were formerly used for dinner theater are still in place. Folks can grab a cup of coffee and sit while the preacher delivers his message. Nobody minds if you wear blue jeans. I was impressed with the church and the nice folks that attended, and wrote a song about it called "The Great Plains Community Church". The preacher flipped out, and asked me if it could be placed out on their website. I gave them the copyright, and they're now using CD's of my song as "calling cards", to help introduce the church to new friends. The song has developed a life of its own, and is spreading all over Nebraska! I am just thrilled that it's having such an impact. You can hear the song at www.greatplainschurch.org
Our good friend and fantastic musician Charley Groth was back home in Florida last November, and said "Come on down!" So we did. We got to spend Thanksgiving with our family in Apopka, performed at our olc church in DeLand, and performed for a group of new friends in Sarasota. Then we took a one-day cruise to Key West aboard a high-speed catamaran, something we've never done before! (I love doing things I've never done before. Another friend, Jerry Havemann, accuses me of being an "adrenalin junkie".) We made friends with the owner of a music store in Key West, who expressed and interest in us, and we had a long conversation regarding their many festivals and events.
Wow, I didn't realize it had been so long since I updated my blog! Sorry, I will try to do better. We were invited to appear at "Midwest Country" Music Theater in Sandstone, Minnesota, which broadcasts nationwide on RFD-TV. They were terrific to us up there, wonderful folks. Our performance has aired twice so far. Way Cool!
