My name is Melody Granger, and I play guitar. I whole heatedly believe that music does not need to be complex or difficult to make to be good. It matters not how you got to the final product, but only that the final product is appealing. (Though credit should certainly be given where credit is due.) I'm born and raised in Woontown, which is desolate as far as any form of art goes, so any chance of me being famous are slimmer than usual, which I'm okay with considering I do this mostly for the fun of it. A lot of what I do is solo work, but recently I've recruited the help of my girlfriend Kate, and friend Jason to assist me in the creation of my music. Drums and bass respectively. We don't have a particular genre that we stick to, though more times than not, Metal and Hip-Hop are heavy influences. I've been getting more into Dubstep as of late, and as such have been incorporating wobbling basslines into metal/orchestral bits. Judging by the stuff I've already uploaded, I've come a long way, and am eager to see where the future takes my music. Change will inevitably happen, so don't get too attached to the current sound. I am not a "sellout" and will do whatever sounds right to me.Band/artist history
The Kentucky Killers have been through many members. Some have kind of stuck around, many have parted ways. Kate and I are the most recent additions, with Jason being a non-original member, but still from the early days. Tom, Jill, Jack and Jason's brother James were the initial members. Jason entered in as the second guitarist, and it was the five members. They added and removed members over time. All past and present members to date are Jack, Jill (ha ha), Tom, James, Debra, Jason, Mike (now Foxtrot89) Kate, Morrigan, and me, Melody. The currently active members are Kate, who does percussion, Jason; bass, Morrigan; programming/keys, Foxtrot89;mixing/mastering and of course me, who plays guitar. Plenty of history behind all members, but that's all just a bunch of useless info.Have you performed in front of an audience? No, not so much. I've played a few "shows" for friends/family parties, but other than that, it's strictly just recordings. Probably at some point in the future we'll play shows, but for now it will remain how it is.
Your musical influences
David MeShow, Toby Emerson, Dethklok, Mushromhead, Deadmau5, Skrillex, Sinister Souls, Pendulum, Video games, emotions and just having fun. What equipment do you use?
I use a custom built Explorer knock off. I love it more than any of my other guitars. I have another cheap explorer knock off and a Douglas 7 string, which I would love if the pickups were a little hotter. For drums, Kate uses some sort of electric kit. Can't recall off the top of my head which it is, but we run it through one of several sound libraries. Steven Slate drums, Superior Drummer and Addictive drums to name a few. Jason uses a six string Douglas bass. Guitars and bass are all recorded through amp sims, or through my Peavey Vypyr, lined into the computer. Recording process is nice and quiet, as it should be in an apartment. FL studio is the main DAW of choice, but I venture to Reaper every now and again if the need arises, which isn't all too common.Anything else?
I desperately hate people who knock on artists who change styles/genres. Like the people who bitch that Pendulum has ventured away from DnB, or how Deadmau5 has shown an interest in dubstep. Music is art, and art should evolve. I highly doubt the Mona Lisa would mean shit to anyone these days if Leonardo da Vinci painted a thousand pictures exactly like it. Embrace diversity; be open minded. The more closed minded you are, the more you miss out on. It matters not who writes amazing music, only that it is enjoyable.
