Minneapolis based MayaFlyer began when David Carnes and Lisa Hirst met while studying music at the University of Minnesota. The duo performed at coffeehouses and bars while building their repertoire of original music.
In late 2003 the group’s sound crystallized when multi-instrumentalist and audiophile Sean Broderick joined the group. With Broderick’s influence, the roles within the group solidified as Hirst’s dramatic, acrobatic vocals took the lead, Carnes shouldered the majority of the songwriting and harmonic structure, and Broderick fleshed out the details with spears of electric guitar, spacious drum kit, and intricate flourishes.
Bassist, Wade Hanson recorded his parts while living in Chicago. After the CD's release Hanson relocated to Minneapolis to play live with MayaFlyer.Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes, we will play anywhere. We love it. Performing live is always incredible because hopefully you can make the audience feel something.
