MASHKOVA.... we're a three piece electronic punk breakbeat, band based in brighton uk, comprising of myself-programming beats,playing guitar, bass and synths, Charlie pilot on vocal duties and Spenser Gardner thrashing it out on the guitar.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
we had all been making music independanty for ages, when Charlie and i met in late 1999, and we made music together in Kent (uk) under the name 'Product' creating dark vocal drum and bass. (which in retrospect sort of reflected our frustration at living in such a small town!) By 2001 we had to find pastures new, so we moved to Brighton, where there seemed to be alot more going on. After 6 months or so and some gigs we mellowed, the music changed- the name seem didnt fit anymore-so we moved on. MASHKOVA was born. our music continued to develop as we recorded and giged more matrial.
The current incarnation of Mashkova was complete
in 2004 when, through another band,I met Spenser, we quickly became fiends, and started to write together for a sister project 'Venn Diagram'. He has now become an important factor in Mashkova's live shows and recording's.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
yes. we play around Brighton. recently playing at the freeebutt and prince albert. as for special moments ? sweating it out in a furry wolf mask is somthing i'll remember for a while.
Your musical influences
In no paticular order-Billie Holiday, Cure, Punk, Hendrix, a bit of Acid/tecno.a big dolop of Drum and Bass, a sniff of Industrial-i could go on but...
What equipment do you use?
mac running Cubase SL3,outboard synths and guitars.
