I have always kind of done my own thing. Maybe that's why I really never committed to a playing in a band. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy getting together to pick and sing with others. But music is such a personal thing for me. It's hard to get four or five guys together on the same page sometimes. Everybody wants to do his own thing to a degree, and that's okay. Music is expression, taking those internal pictures and painting them through sounds. So I tend to enjoy playing solo or as a duo.
Your musical influences
Growing up in church, I was influenced by a couple of older guys in the church who could do some really good picking. I used to sit and listen to them, watch them, try to emulate everything they were doing. As I got a little older I didn't want to be a carbon copy of anyone, so I started listening to music I hadn't really paid much attention to as a child. Van Halen, Tom Petty and Garth Brooks were some of my favorites in college. Then Counting Crows came along and got popular in the late 90s. I can't really do an Adam Duritz song justice, so I'm not likely to play Counting Crows in public. I have to say, though, that their music is tremendous for me. Lately I have gotten back to country and things that are more simple and pleasant to my soul. Perhaps I am showing my age! LOL
What equipment do you use?
I am an acoustic guy for sure. I really enjoy my Taylor guitar!
Anything else?
These are demos recorded at home, not studio products. This is just an idea of the types of music I enjoy playing. Thanks for listening!
