Marc Century

Just a hip-hop instrumental writer. Focusing more on the aesthetic of the song than complexity, I keep it simple and synchopated.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I started as a hip-hop deejay in Kalamazoo in 1999. I first began producing music later that year, on a shitty Casio keyboard, then moved up to a Yamaha. I then moved to East Lansing for school, and picked up a Boss 202 drum machine and Yamaha QY sequencer. While at school, I met some great emcees that I'm still working with: Joe Sherman (Pistone), Justin Capers (DetrituSin), Okenwa Aguwa (Legacee). Most recently, I produced a good portion of Pistone's "American Beauty" mixtape. My current setup runs a Korg Triton keyboard through an MRS 4-track digital recorder, and finalizes everything in Cool Edit Pro.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Mostly in East Lansing at parties, but I've played at bars in a few areas of Michigan: Landshark, Harper's, Founders (Grand Rapids), Bell's (Kalamazoo). The parties are my favorites, there's so much more energy.
Your musical influences
I really dig the instrumentals that the Alchemist writes. I'm also feeling Kanye West (wish I could soul sample like him). I love the beats RZA does, too.
What equipment do you use?
Korg Triton keyboard, MRS-4 Track digital recorder, Cool Edit Pro software.
