Manny Gonzales
Its all about the music for me. I am a wierd guy but I take my art, not to sound arrogant, very seriously. My music introduces a lot of styles and cultures from blues to middle eastern and flamenco. Not that I play any of them well but adding a flavor of these cultures gives any music a spice. It is also music, sounds, and feelings of the past three years of my life, some good, some painful but to be able to develope perspective on all the crap of day to day living and share it in a way that makes people move is maybe the one gift i was blessed with. Once again not to sound arrogant but thats my music in a nutshell.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I started playing classical guitar at 16 and have been playing for 16 yrs. Do the math to see how old I am. I've recorded two cds, the second in the final stages of production and have played through out the country. Im planning to go to Spain this year and study flamenco for a time and add more of that to my music. My 1st cd "Open Air Museum" was released in march of '99 and the new cd "Angels in Waiting" is due to be completed later this very cold winter. I hope you all like it.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I havent played out in awhile execpt for a quick show I did in San Carlos Mexico as seen on my picture. I was lucky enough to perform with the lovely Colombian singer Isis pronounced Ece Ece in spanish. She sang a beautiful rendition of Cucurrucucu Paloma. Actually it was at my wedding and she is my wife but its the only picture of me and my guitar so I thought the story sounded nice.
Your musical influences
I love music period. you can find great stuff from Monk to B.B. King to Sound Garden to Rush to Loreta Lynn. Great music is just that, the genre is only to make sence of the emotions you write about.
What equipment do you use?
I play a Tacoma pm-20 a Manuel Rodriguez y Hijos c 0348 classical(whats in my lap right now) a Fender P-Bass a Godin and a Tele. I record on my Sony Viao with Cubase VST through an AKG to a tascam digital mixer. Lots of fun stuff
