I'm a solo hip-hop performer originally from Pittsburgh (actually McKeesport) Pennsylvania relocated to Forest Grove, Oregon and often visiting nearby Portland. I make music that is better than a lot of shit on Soundclick (and elsewhere), give it a chance and you might like it. I'm not your typical "underground" MC. I rhyme about things that relate to life as a whole, not just hip-hop, so you won't catch many songs from me about battling (there are a couple where I talk about how great I am, but let me tell you, those are mostly either tongue-in-cheek or made exclusively as a "daily affirmation" sort of thing). I've been rhyming for 4 years, DJing for about the same, producing beats for just about a year and performing live for a year as well. Hit me up if you like my music or want to collaborate.
Band/artist history
I've been holding down the turf upstairs in my parents' house for some 4 years now. I'm the (self-proclaimed) undisputed freestyle champion of 16th Ave. in Forest Grove. Despite these vaunted achievements I quest for greater glory in the venues of Portland and elsewhere. I've really only been making noise "in the scene" for a year or so now but I've been putting my time to good use (by endlessly chattering at my friends with connections to get me gigs).
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I've performed live at many of Portland's more upscale bars, microbrews and drinking establishments. Some of my finer moments have taken place at Nocturnal, a review of the last show I was at there is posted on www.superhappywax.com.
Your musical influences
My major musical influences are pretty varied. My favorite singer/songwriter of all-time is Randy Newman. Right up there with him is David Byrne, the Talking Heads are great. I'm a big fan of jazz, jazz-funk fusion and funk before it all became disco. I also really like 80's heavy metal bands (especially Dio and Judas Priest). Another one of my musical interests is video game music, particularly the original MIDIs from NES games. Nintendocore bands can be tight too...Ice Climbers kick ass! (http://www.ice-climbers.com) My major influences in the world of hip-hop are groups and individuals like Ugly Duckling, MC Paul Barman, People Under The Stairs, CunninLynguists, J-Live, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Rakim, Jurassic 5, Fatlip, Eminem, Aesop Rock and RJD2 among others.
What equipment do you use?
I make all my beats on an MPC 2000XL sampling from scads of records (and not any wack drum-break records or reissues, biotch). I don't use keyboards or computers in my production but I have friends that do and I can respect good beats made from any source. As far as recording, I use an AKG condenser mic and my computer (I use Vegas for recording and Soundforge for editing). I cut on two Technics 1200s, Shure M44-7 needles and a Numark SM-3 mixer. I also have a pair of Alesis studio monitors. I'd recommend all of that stuff I just listen except the Numark mixer (go with Rane) and the Alesis monitors (I think I could've gotten some that are at least as good for cheaper).
