Mandy Matthias
Mandy Matthias - Chicago's new voice of Country...
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Mandy Matthias has accomplished a lot for someone of the young age of only 20. She showed signs of future stardom at a very young age, always being eager to "put on a show". Mandy took to singing naturally. She performed with a variety of vocal groups including her High School Show Choir. Country music, however, was where Mandy always seemed to shine. Soon, she was singing back-up vocals with several Chicago-area Country acts, before embarking on a promising solo career. In 1998, Mandy Matthias cut her first three-song demo. Immediately she was getting some attention, and was performing at a variety of local fairs and festivals, as well as opening for regional country acts. Mandy's demo also attracted the attention of several record labels, including Selective Records in Nashville. In September of 1999, Mandy, along Adam Kiel, her drummer and cousin, were in Nashville for the first time. With the help of an all-star line-up of players, Mandy recorded her first two songs for release to U.S. radio stations, and promotion in European Markets. While a full album is currently in the works, Mandy Matthias continues to work on new material, as well as live performances. Her first two tracks, "You're Gonna Get It", and "Tracks Between Loneliness And Love" were released in the summer of 2000.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes I play live. South suburbs of Chicago on the "fair circut". I love being on stage and entertaining people.
A special moment was in the fall of '98 when about 10 little kids rushed up to me with my picture and gave me hugs and asked me for my autograph.
Your musical influences
Patsy Cline, Martina McBride, and Reba McEntire are people who have influenced me. The musicianship of the Dixie Chicks is also a major influence.
Anything else?
