Band/artist history

Made In Chicago independently released their debut album “Everything’s been Changed” in the spring of of 2000. The album speaks volumes about the trials, tribulations, and triumphs that many experienced while growing up in the notorious Englewood district of Chicago. In Summer 2003, M.I.C released the “Take Over” Mixtape as a digital treat meant to appease the legions of hungry fans. This project confirmed that Rob Shmoov and JD are capable of consistently delivering the innovative beats, creative lyrics, and unbridled passion that hip-hop fans crave. After establishing M.I.C as a staple of Chicago’s Hip hop community, it was evident that this dynamic duo possesses the talent, drive, and maturity necessary to make a worldwide impact on the hip hop genre.

Made in Chicago formed in 1991 by Rob Shmoov (David Robinson) and JD Jermaine Dellahousaye), blood relatives who have been writing performing and producing Hip Hop since their teens. The two came together to release a brilliant, LP, "Everything’s Been Changed," which made a deep impression with true hip-hop heads everywhere. Its success emphasized the chemistry each of the artists had with one another and the passion-filled street message that came along with it. Rob & JD’s roots lie in the Chicago Underground, a hip-hop movement centered on The Subterranean open-mic nights, Buddha Lounge and the Dragon room, where dozens of MCs and DJs would congregate regularly to perform. During its most prolific period (1991-1994), the Chicago Underground was a Mecca of musical innovation, spawning groups like Made In Chicago and Verbally Diseased; more importantly, the movement encouraged its artists to constantly balance progressive styles and good music an idea that still resonates with M.I.C, one of the most successful groups to emerge from that scene.

M.I.C operates and manages its own digital production studio in Chicago. The group displays an energy that recalls a throwback era in hip-hop, when the only thing that seemed to matter was the music and having fun. The time of park jams and block parties, of willful braggadocio and infamous street tales. Rob Shmoov & JD have always displayed characteristics of those back-in-the-day jams, like their powerful vocal performances and amplified soul beats, but what the group embodies more than stylistic flourishes is that era's spirit: making good music that connects with the people.
