Lucky Day boasts a unique combination of experience, songwriting talent, and musicianship to produce a sound that is as catchy and infectious as a serious case of monkey pox.
The Washington City Paper proclaims, "...the quartet creates some of the most ear-pleasing Brit-poppish sounds we've heard in awhile." Furthermore, their demo "Look at Me Now" debuted in the top 3 in its first week on the Washington Post's MP3 site and has been a mainstay ever since.
Their sound is rooted in the Britpop tradition, incorporating urgent hooks, soaring melodies, and unabashedly earnest themes. However, this pomp is offset by ethereal vocals and melancholy lyrics, producing a curious contrast; the songs you hear will linger in your mind long after they are over.
Lucky Day is establishing a solid following in the DC music scene, looking to continue the trend in other markets, on the East Coast and beyond. With a forthcoming EP due spring 2006, Lucky Day will give listeners more of what they want: good songs.Band/artist history
Adam Gierisch (Bass) is new to the DC area after four years in Chapel Hill, NC. Before picking up the bass, he was a classically trained trombonist, and also explored other instruments such as the guitar, cello, and drums. Before moving to DC, he played bass with several bands in Texas and North Carolina.
Brian Huber (Guitar) established himself in the DC area music scene as a member of the band, Canadian Invasion. The 2003 release of their EP "Blame the Robots" contained one of Brian's tunes, "Drift Away." Positive reviews followed and Canadian Invasion received repeated airplay on DC101s Local Lix Hour and top download honors on the Washington Post web site.
Victoria Patchen (Lead Vocals) has been singing since she could talk, playing piano since age 3, and drumming since age 9. While in college, she made a name for herself as a singer/songwriter in acoustic duo Angel Fall, releasing three CDs and performing at venues such as the Kennedy Center and Starr Hill Music Hall. She went on to front DC rock band villarosie. The Journal Newspaper's Lou King says, "Patchen's rich, ethereal vocals vent yearning and melancholy." Washington Post's Joe Heim calls her voice "cool and ethereal."Have you performed in front of an audience? We are based in the DC metro area but also play out in New York City, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Ricmond.
