I remember working with Mr. Bieson. Him and Bill McLaughlin were the best at getting paid by the mile. Oh man...

I liked it just fine....... as for the lyrics... not sure exactly what you're looking at, Lou, but I only listened to it once, so maybe I missed something?

Hey Lou, thanks for the comments on Mole. Greil Marcus called that stuff "weird old America," and it certainly is just that--great music, unsanitized. One of my faves from that period is Jimmie Rodgers' Gambling Barroom Blues--imagine that one on the Grand 'Ol Opry...

Hey Lou--My most recent tune is for you, Michel & Grant--the line about the railroad man prompted the thought. But excelsior--on to trying my hand at a country waltz for a song competition in the Country forum. My usual depression-fest, haha, but my new steel is getting me through the weekends. Cheers, and season's greasings from Downeast. MH

Lou, just wanted to tell you how much I like Laurie Merrill Miles--a great tribute. The scrolling lyrics are a nice touch, and the song...well, it's just great, a tribute that seems to do something pretty special. So, thanks for that. As for your photo wi Little Debbie (Mary), I am speechless. Don't know what's more impressive--your hat, the snack cakes or the Entire Moment. Wait, I know! There's just somethng about Mary...

It might have been the decade I wasn't inhaling, but I somehow missed both Ray Condo & Hank Penny. Not anymore. I've had both of 'em in heavy rotation since you mentioned them in your note, and I'll be forever grateful to you for steering me in their direction. Hank Penny--man, I've always been a huge Bob Wills fan, and I thought only Tommy Duncan could sing like that. But Hank not only can sing like a birdie, his entire band seems to have more hair, more mojo & more whatever than anyone I can think of since...well, Bob Wills & crew. That's one hella steel player Hank has...whew! The whole band, really, always in that tight front pocket. Ray is a riot--classic & righteous & slap-echo crazy good. He's inspired me to begin working on a new tune! I haven't heard anything I like better since I dunno. These guys just might persuade me to stop listening to Dirt Track Date by Southern Culture on the Skids for a little while. Dangerous stuff to listen to behind the wheel. It's ne

Lou, this is one for the ages, man. Great song--with great vocal performance, too--about a great man--the lyrics rival anything ever written about working the railroad, and that's putting you right up there with The Grateful Dead's Casey Jones and Utah Phillips' Going Away. Woot! Blown away! Right on!

Hey Lou! Weekend...ahhh...I really, really needed it. But in the back of my mind I imagine Road Apples deep inside the garage. The horses are afraid... But until he emerges with a boliviating masterpiece, all I can do is wash the dishes, let the dogs in & out, think about stuff & get the laundry done. Crossing the Rockies--I did that a few times, but only on a plane. Do you know Utah Phillips' song Going Away? It's a railroading song, one of the best imo, & somehow it's part of my tune. "Is that the moon I see?" Why it certainly is. So, here we go in round three. Best of luck to ya, and I hope your suit comes in and that it's a perfect fit. MH

Just a great song in every way, Lou--intense, funny but not really, and deeply felt. Great work, man.

Just saw your comment, man--thanks, and the feeling is mutual. I guess I felt like running with the big dogs for a minute there, and it's been a pleasure all round. As for the song, try this instead: pouring rain, a major leak in the living room ceiling, fur balls the size of Delaware taking over the living room, and no f*** ing sleep for what feels like a year. My kind of fun!

Lou - we are performing it live - our first gig is March 15th and will be followed b y an Original Music Showcase on May 4th - thought we'd test the waters to see what the crowd reaction to a bunch of "seasoned" or grizzled old vets might be...time will tell! The band is called "A Cry of Hounds". I was thinking a video idea might be to film a black/white short of the band sitting in a cemetery - with instruments...and overdub one of the zombie tunes or something - but that would be hugely disrespectful and would not likely go over well...hmmm...

your Laurie Merrill MIles video and song is excellent. You are multi-talented, and I'd be pleased to steal your best ideas.
