Lone Wolf James

Lone Wolf James started his music career in 1986 as a drummer, and in 1989 began singing. He took vocal training under the tutelage of nationally-known vocal coach Mark Baxter. Mark's students consisted of such celebrity vocalists as Steven Tyler, Peter Wolf, and Gary Cherone. In 1997, he became a solo artist and songwriter, donning the name "Lone Wolf James," developing his own style of Acoustic Hard Rock with a Blues/Funk edge. Releasing his debut CD, "Prey," on April Fool's Day 2000, the CD sold out. He then received "Best Artist," "Best Album of the Year," and "Elite Musician Award in 2000/2001." His second CD, "Native Groove," was released in 2002, and Alternative News Magazine presented him the award for "Best Male Vocalist of the Year" and was inducted into the Music Meter Hall Of Fame. Lone Wolf James placed first in the Emergenza National Festival, and was endorsed by Millennia Guitars. He then was hand picked by Lil Stevie Van Zant (Bruce Springsteen band) to perform at his Underground Garage Showcase in RI. He performed as part of the nonprofit A3D to raise money for Africa. His third CD, "Tribal Funk," was released in September 2004, followed by a five-month development deal with Chromium Records from the UK in 2005. LWJ released a song that cemented in the #4 slot for three straight months. In 2007 Lone Wolf James was chosen to perform live at the Talent Rock Showcase in Orlando, FL. Opening shows for many National Artists around the world, such as The Southern Rock Allstars (featuring members of Molly Hachet, Blackfoot, Thunder Foot, Lynyrd Skynyrd), Jefferson Starship Band, The Blushing Brides, the #1 Rolling Stones tribute band in the world, Rock4Xmas 2008 with John Cafferty and Eddie Money. LWJ's fourth CD "Four" is targeted for release in mid 2009. He is currently touring the East Coast with his road band and always ready to rock.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
LWJ's bass player history started in 2000. LWJ's engineer and good friend Paul Ortolano played all the bass on LWJ's first CD "Prey" released April 1, 2000. LWJ then hired bassist Jeff Rajchel for his live shows. Jeff was replaced later in 2000 by multi-talented bass player Jon "Rhino" Mendell. Jon has been LWJ's full-time bass player ever since. You can hear Jon's solid bone-crunching bass playing at all live LWJ shows as well as on the "Tribal Funk" and "Native Groove" CDs. Jon also co-writes many of LWJ's music and adds his talent on backing vocals to boot. The LWJ guitar player history started in late 1997. LWJ was working on songs for his then debut CD "Prey." LWJ hired guitarist Brian Fernald as the lead player in his lineup. You can hear Brian's trademark guitar playing on the "Prey" CD. The guitar solos on the songd "Just a Bone," as the second guitar on "Center Stage," and the sly-sounding slide guitar on "Badd Blood." Brian was replaced by Berkley guitarist Ben Carroll in late 1999. Ben tore up the live shows with LWJ for over a year. Ben is a strong, talented guitarist that now plays for national-recording artist "RA." Bob Powers, a friend and former guitarist of LWJ's earlier band days, filled in on guitar for a few months. Bob also co-wrote the music to the song "Down in Flames," which can be heard on "Native Groove." "Native Groove" was the name of the former band LWJ and Bob played in together. Ben was replaced in 2001 by guitarist Mike Plantec. Mike's influences of blues and '80s hair metal meshed nicely with LWJ's style. He is still with LWJ as the full-time lead guitarist. You can also hear Mike's vintage guitar style on the songs "Better Than Me" and "I'm On My Way" on "Native Groove" and also on "Tribal Funk." Although most of the drum tracks on the LWJ CDs were done by LWJ himself, he had some drummers leave their mark on them as well. The first was Joe Walker. Joe has played many shows for LWJ since 1997. He can be heard on the "Prey" CD on the songs "Not Gonna Fall" and "Alive" as well as the songs "Native Groove," "Turn Back The Night," and "I'm On My Way" on the "Native Groove" CD. You can find Joe playing many live shows throughout New England filling in for many musicians and bands as well as being a returning drummer for LWJ when needed. The second was Jim Glading. Jim is a talented drummer and percussionist. Jim added a great deal to the backup vocals as well. The third drummer, the newest LWJ member, is Kevin Cote, formerly of Antedote. Kevin joined LWJ in February 2004. LWJ also has a couple backup drummers if needed, one being Paul "Gumby" Sampson from LWJ's cover band, No Tail. All the drummers bring their decadent back beat to the charismatic LWJ songs for that full-band live sound.

Anything else?
Here's what others have to say about LWJ: “White Boy Blues meets Days of the New? Very solid, well-played acoustic blues rock. . .rhythm guitar sounds better than a lot of major label efforts.” - Dick Dragon “Gutsy rock groove, strong vocals and an Americana tinged feel. . .interpretations of that direction like tone-down Paladins or Four Horsemen with a sly touch of Bon Jovi. High points are Lone Wolf’s stellar vocal personalities from soulful roots rocker to slightly punk snarl, portraying gritty lyrics.”
