Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
touts a confident Robert Spruill as he introduces himself on, "The Beginning," the first track from his long-awaited debut album, Better Late Than Never. The title is pretty self-explanatory considering that SP has been rhyming for 12 years and shows no signs of stopping. From being featured on various CD's and mixtapes, to winning numerous talent shows and battles, SP has done more than just earn his respect a gifted MC. He's gained enough recognition to open for platinum-selling artists such as The Roots & Digital Underground as well as some of hip-hop's most respected underground artists including Yukmouth, Slum Village, AC Alone, and The Visionaries. On his album, Better Late Than Never, SP shares his views on life, love, family and music with a collection of songs that are personal, yet vague enough to relate to most anyone in some way. SP also manages to avoid the use of hip hop cliché's such as guns, drugs, material items and big egos while still maintaining a tough, street-wise image. The outcome is a sound that surpasses the boundaries of local underground music, making SP an artist worthy of nation-wide attention. Add the fact that he looks as appealing as he sounds and it's clear that SP is on his way, even if he is a little late.
