HIP HOP WILL LIVE ON!!
Baltimore born, Illpoetix strikes out with his boldest album yet. recorded in early 2003-late 2004, his mix of passion, and love for the music keeps you glued to the album. Influenced by Baltimore and the streets of Philly, this poet/ rapper/ painter/ activist is more than ready to let you see what's going on from the stand point of an eemcee, who's not out for the cash. Before changing his name to Tru Freedom in 2005 this was the last album recorded.
With tracks like "Beautiful" and "Theraputicrebelmuzik" how could you not live the witty and heartfelt banter of a starving artist such as this? Some songs are straight freestyles such as "Devil" and "Sorry" He thanks Mos Def for inspireing him on "Umi Says".
During the song, "Sorry" ILL reflects to his grandmother whos passed, and tearfully, sobbs a whole song, appologizing for missing church on sundays and her last days in the hospital. "that's really me crying in the studio", he humbles. Respectfully you have to listen as this was not a written song, but a session on which he heard a beat then simply hit record.
Production wise, the album is full of other rappers beats. but whats great is that he makes you forget who's beat it is really quickly. In some songs you can hear a "bubbling" in the background. When asked what it was, he laughed and said, "oh that? That's my 10 gallon fishtank" and laughs. Other songs are a bit skippy and skethchy, but look beyond that LISTEN TO THE LYRIC and you'll find yourself agreeing with allot of what he has to say. Baltimore is know for it's high murder rate and drugs, but he delivers the otherside. No bling, no ice, no genocide etc.
Soon to follow is another album titled "FOLLOW ME" and he's looking for guess to appear on it.
