sigur ros, mogwai, a whisper in the noise, morphine, john cage, terry riley, slipknot, kyuss, ani difranco, beastie boys, and most recently, british celebrity and fiveways...that wasn't helpful at all now was it?
What equipment do you use?
Depends on what the song demands... acoustic and electic guitar, lots of effects, either stompboxes or plug-ins, and my imagination...
