Kyllix
Kyllix is a musical phenomenon without parallel. Combining heavy metal, stoner rock, hardcore, and psychadelic stylings, this absurd power trio carves out a unique niche in the underground metal scene...and sentences YOU to death by sexy! At once brutal and soothing, their music can lull you into a deep orgasm and/or consistently take a sledge hammer to your face. Luke and Jesse form a guitar/drum brother duo unmatched since the days of Dimebag (RIP) and Vinnie Paul of Pantera. Francis finishes the job with rumbling bass and spectacular vocal stylings, including, but not limited to, growls, screams, and operatic symphonic flatulence. KYLLIX BABY!
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Kyllix started in Edinboro, PA in summer 2003 when two brothers and their friend from DC decided it was time to rock. Francis had a bass, and Luke acquired a guitar, and Jesse a drum set. Francis decided to handle the vocal duties. With power trios like Cream and Rush as their inspiration, the group began to write. That summer, one song, The Whale, was written. With a bassist/vocalist living nearly 7 hours away, writing and jamming more proved difficult. In winter 2003-3004 the band wrote some more songs, and finally got around to writing more and recording some material to CD in summer 2004. In June the band decided on the name Kyllix. The name was specifically chosen for its pottery connotations. Using an 8 track with limited equipment, the band recorded the Unlawfully Delicious Demo in July. It is comprised of 7 songs, and features several bizarre musical interludes and good jokes. In August 2004 Kyllix performed at the Lake Erie Garage Rock Festival at the Pepsi Amphitheater in Erie, PA with strobe lights, a bubble machine and a blood-soaked Kyllix flag. In winter 2004-2005 the band reconvened to write and record again. The fruit of that session was the four song Doctor Chocolate demo, featuring the Big Montana, Cicada Syndrome, Crucial Beef, and Tomm the Bullfrog's Area of Conspicuous Consumption. It is of much higher quality than any previous work. Look for more releases and gigs in the very near future. The members of Kyllix take themselves 0% seriously in life, on stage, and while recording. At any time, the Unlawfully Delicious Demo, Doctor Chocolate Demo, and a disc of all collected recordings to date are available. Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We're a new band, and have played only one gig so far, due to the fact that we don't live in the same place during the school year. Our one gig was at the Lake Erie Garage Rock Music Festival. Ususally your first gig isn't at a festival in a large capacity amphitheater, but ours was. Unfortunately, we got the early morning spot and hardly anyone was there. It was tremendous fun for us and the 12 or 13 people present to witness it!
Your musical influences
Kyllix draws from a true cornucopia of musical influences, including Tool, Black Sabbath, Opeth, Cream, Pantera, Led Zeppelin, Rage Against the Machine, Weird Al Yankovic, Kyuss, Deep Purple, Isis, Pelican, Mastodon, Lamb of God, Primus and a variety of metal and hardcore acts. We have written death metal songs, hard rock songs, plodding stoner metal songs with psychedelic interludes, and danceable pop tunes like Pen Fifteen Club and Enoch Colada. Also, an acoustic ballad "The Adan Song" is in the works.
What equipment do you use?
Right now our equipment is pretty basic, and we'll be upgrading fairly soon. Francis has an Ibanez bass and uses a 60 watt Behringer Amp. Luke has an Epiphone guitar and uses an 80 watt Marshall Amp. Jesse plays a Pearl drum set with Sabian cymbals.
