TORONTO, Oct. 19 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
continuing to investigate the circumstances of a fatal shooting involving the
York Regional Police Service (YRPS).
On October 18, 2005, an YRPS officer fatally shot a 21-year-old man
during a confrontation at an industrial complex in the area of Alden Road and
Esna Park Drive in Markham. The deceased man has been identified as
Jeffrey Black.
As part of the investigation, the SIU has now designated one subject and
six witness officers from the YRPS. The SIU is appealing for anyone who
witnessed this incident to contact the Unit at 416-622-2150 or 1-800-787-8529.
The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director
of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are
warranted based on the findings of a co

this is right outthe paper May 28 - Shooting - Around 3:30 p.m., two groups of young men started fighting in the Dawes Rd, Gower Street area of Toronto. The fight occurred just outside a restaurant patio in a heavily populated area. During the course of the fight, two shots were fired from a sawed-off shotgun. One man received head injuries, taken to St. Michael's Hospital, treated and released although it was not clear that he had been shot.
