Kristen Cothron
"Have you been searching for music's next bold bad girl? Cothron is the buried treasure you're seeking!" -Performing Songwriter Magazine
Kristen Cothron is a gifted singer/songwriter/musician. She combines innate smooth vocal styling and cachy pop writing to make music that is both innovative and intelligent. Her voice, like her songs, is full of irony and authentic emotion. Creating a genre that is original and entirely her own - Kristen takes artistry to a whole new level.
Vocally she has been influenced by Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline and Sarah Vaughn. She admires the writing styles of Elvis Costello, Lou Reed, and Sheryl Crow. Although young by measure of years, Kristen emits the soul of a veteran musician through her music, lyrics, and performance.
Kristen began singing and performing at the age of six, playing the guitar at age nine, and writing lyrics and music at age thirteen. She spent her high school years performing solo and with local jazz and vocal groups around Nashville. She has had 11 years of vocal training, 5 years of guitar lessons, and 4 years of training in various dance styles. She was the featured vocalist for the Tennessee Youth Jazz Orchestra for four years, which performed at venues such as Blair Recital Hall at Vanderbilt University, The Nashville Jazz Institute, The Franklin Main Street Festival, and other local jazz festivals.
At 15, she attended the Berklee Songwriting Workshop in 2000 and received a scholarship the following year to attend the Berklee Summer Program. She received a World Tour Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in the fall of 2002.
Currently residing in the Nashville area, Kristen is pursuing her musical career and can be found performing regionally just about every night of the week.

"Cothron is a young singer-songwriter who uses her jazz trained alto to bring unusual dynamics to well-written, confessional material" - The Nashville Scene
Genre mixing with a hint of southern mysticism throughout, Cothron does a good strong woman as well as she does a sensitive womanCothrons ability to make introspective and prospective music is her strongest trait and is just as important as her voice. - Enigma
"Look up chanteuse, and you just might find Kristens picture. She has a fluid, beautiful, melodic voice, with shades of Peggy Lee in some of her phrasing. Her vocals are a seduction soundtrack, or perhaps a bubble bath with candles and champagne." - Music News Nashville
Cothrons avant-garde jazz rhythms show off her mature vocals that are as sweet as she looks. In fact, to me shades of Billie Holiday come to mind. . .

The songs are balanced on a long, winding road full of dips and curves with pedal to the floor lyrics. The release opens with the song, Dangerous that oozes with domination... Watch out for this one, theres no doubt her next release is going to be killer! - Heather Corcoran, CoffeeHouseTour.com

. . .Cothron uses words and melodies rarely seen in a singer/songwriter much less a newcomer. . . a gifted voice that is pure gold and songs that breath new life into the cliché ridden mainstream. . . - Music Industry News Network
Kristen is a young lady who has a soulful voice and is quite a good entertainer. - Brad Stauffer of the Tennessee Jazz Orchestra
Reminiscent of the blues and ballad singers of the 40s, with alternative instrumental sounds and flecked with blues, jazz, folk, county, and rock. - Will Jordan: Senior Feature Writer, The Franklin Review Appeal
"On the opening track called "Dangerous", it became crystal clear that in
terms of recording production and musicianship, this effort is first rate;
and with heavy Hammond organ sound and dark chord structure, the song
reminded me of Procol Harum meets Fiona Apple. As a result of her sultry
voice, her vocals definitely sound like the aforementioned AOR Diva. 'High
on the Blues' centers heavily on the piano part and also tosses in a nice
organ passage that would make Matthew Fisher proud. This track also
reinforced my appreciation for Ms. Cothron's subtle, yet soulful singing
talent." -New Artist Radio
