Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
koivu can be described as lush melodic soundscapes with energetic grooves and red-light moods. koivu is quickly establishing themselves as one of the premier alt-rock bands in the Atlanta area. Formed in the late summer of 1997, this Atlanta based band is comprised of Andrew Housley (vocals), Jim Buchheit (guitar), Jennifer Hicks (bass) and Frank Perisino (drums), all of whom have been playing extensively in the Atlanta/Southeast region for the past eight years.
Characters from the worlds seedy-side lurk in the lyrics and wade through the waves of crackling guitar and funk-laden beats. The continuously evolving sound of the band draws together a variety of styles from a broad range of influences: the tight rhythms of Radiohead, the emotionally drenched vocals of Coldplay and the raw, musical power of the Smashing Pumpkins. koivu has a tightly polished sound, with over three hours of original music.
In December of 2003, after a brief sabbatical and exploration into various side projects, koivu made their triumphant return to the Atlanta scene by head lining Plush Magazine’s Naughty Xmas Ball at the Cotton Club.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We are always playing in Atlanta and surrounding area of Athens.
