I started writing songs two years ago, so I'm still very much a child when it comes to making music. But I came to realize that I like songs a lot more than people, so I figured I should get to know them better.
Band/artist history
I started playing piano at the ripe old age of 6. I started to grow bored with the instrument around middle school, until I heard "Le Petit Negre" by Claude Debussy. He still remains my favorite composer and a constant inspiration. I started writing songs the summer after I graduated from high school -- I had just heard "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton and thought, "If she can write that crap and get away with it, what's stopping me?" Songwriting seemed the best way to combined my love of music and my natural lean towards the written word. The first songs I wrote were during my "rebellion" period when I wanted nothing to do with the piano and started devoting my attention to synths -- thank Bjork, Moby, and Emma Shapplin for that. Tori Amos brought me back to the bench, though.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live when I can, but not often. I've been nestling up to the piano since second grade and playing for audiences fromt the very beginning, mostly classical pieces throughout elementary and high school. I just made my vocal debut my sophomore year in college. I love to perform, it may well be my favorite thing, but I don't like to practice, so that gets in the way.
