Band/artist history
"On the surface, as warm and cuddly as a bra full of puppies... Dig a little deeper, though, and it soon becomes apparent that each bite of the candyfloss is laced with razor wire"...that's how London's CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE describes Killola. Cuddly, or razor sharp, the supercharged Los Angelean rock quartet simply wants everyone to know who they are. Unconfined to a single rock genre, the band engages its own blend of catchy power-pop with edgy rock and arousing swagger, and they manage to come at the world from every angle. Their dynamic, debut CD album 'Louder, Louder!' is a flash fire of energy and attitude, sprinkled with madness, intelligence, and grinning angst. Killola encompasses newness and stands bold in sassy, vibrant color amongst the masses of grey and uninteresting carbon copy music. "We made 'Louder, Louder!' by ourselves, and with the help of close friends. It cost us very little to make," prides the band, "so we decided that we didn't really need a label". The CD released in January of 2006, and within ten months of selling it from their website, and their merch table... the first-print of 1,000 is already sold-out. Fronted by lead singer Lisa R., Killola formed in 2004. The four members sought to combine their varying tastes in music to create something stylish and fresh. The result has been appraised as "80's Cali new wave powerquirk pop" and "tough-chick, post-glam, herky-stomp," by rock critic iconoclast Chuck Eddy (Village Voice, MTV Urge). Christopher R. Weingarten, former Music Editor of CMJ New Music Monthly wrote, "Lisa totally sings rock like a pop idol (as opposed to Avril who sings pop like a rock idol). Why can't these guys be more famous instead?" 'Louder Louder!' is a noteworthy leap forward from their untitled 2004 EP, and the band's powerful live performance has created a street-buzz in Southern California, resulting in shows that are shoulder-packed... constantly attracting a full spectrum of fan-types, from bikers to teenagers (some with just-as-dedicated parents), and from anti-hipsters to Hollywood A-listers, all singing along. With another studio-release planned for early 2007, as well as a live DVD/CD release already shot, Killola has no intentions of slowing down. In a hyper-competitive city, they have picked up regional radio airplay on Indie 103, the indie-cult-adored KXLU, XM Radio, as well as caught the ear of Dave Navarro, who frequently champions the band's music from his weekly home-radio broadcast 'Spread Radio Live'. * * *
