Kid Coma

This music is the outcome of having three kids, lots of musical friends, and a house full of instruments that finally everyone wants to play. Doug Larson builds his own instruments and we all play everything. There's Nathan mainly on drums and Nick mainly on guitar. Virginia helps with editing lyrics. John Gerrath plays the drum kit on lots of the tracks and Jeremy Lundholm is featured on one. Owen Roberts and Kevin Stevens have been involved with some writing too. Doug plays in a band called the GMOs with Owen and three other guys.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yup, Doug's in two semi-pro bands and Nathan plays with Doug in a blues bar on Saturdays.
Your musical influences
When your group includes people from 21 to 54 the influences run thick and deep. I guess what we play is everything.
What equipment do you use?
Doug builds most of the instruments on the tracks, except the piano (although he rebuilt it), the Fender Telecaster, and a 1970's Vantage Avenger. On one track Nick plays a Guild Jumbo 6 string. The other Larson-built instruments include (from big to small), acoustic bass, fretless tricone jumbo acoustic reso bass, 6 different resonators including metal and wood, spider and biscuit. Some have 1960's DeArmond (Rowe Industries) pickups that are HOT. Mandolin, tenor reso, piccolo (6 string reso), and sitar (restored by Doug). The favorite amp for recording is a restored 1938 Westinghouse tube radio, but we also use a Fender Deluxe and a Yorkville AM100.
