Kevin Montgomery
This new record has been long in the making. It would not have been made had I not had some really good friends who were willing to go out on a limb for me.....they also just happened to be the best, most soulful players I've ever played with.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Kevin Montgomery's debut record FEAR NOTHING was released to critical acclaim and rave reviews. Montgomery promptly hit the road, touring the U.S. with artists such as Sheryl Crow, Peter Himmelman, David Crosby, and the Samples.
Coming off the heels of his debut release, Montgomery performed a duet with Mary-Chapin Carpenter on the NOT FADE AWAY-REMEMBERING BUDDY HOLLY cd for Decca Records.
In 1997, Martina McBride tapped FEAR NOTHING for her double platinum cd, EVOLUTION, cutting Kevin's song, "I Won't Close My Eyes."
Currently, Kevin just completed his new cd, ANOTHER LONG STORY with noted producers, Dusty Wakeman(Lucinda Williams,Dwight Yoakum,Jim Lauderdale),Frank Liddell(Chris Knight,Lee Ann Womack), and Michael Dumas. It was recorded in L.A. with Kevin's long-time musical co-horts, Doug Pettibone, Jim Christie, and Paul Bushnell.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I play live as often as I can.I did a 70 city tour with Peter Himmelman....that was great! I opened acoustically for him, and then had the pleasure of watching him perform every night. He is unbelievable. I learned alot from that experience. I also was lucky enough to tour with Sheryl Crow, David Crosby, and the Samples. Special moments on stage.....ummm....well,recently, while performing at the Exit/Inn in Nashville, I blew a snot bubble out of my nose....it just sort of blew out and there was nothing I could do except marvel at it for a moment and then move on.
Your musical influences
I am a huge fan of Jackson Browne....more so the early years. My all-time favorite album is LATE FOR THE SKY. My favorite writers in order are Jackson Browne, Jimmy Webb, Don Henley, Aimee Mann, and Karla Bonoff. Some of my favorite bands are Third Eye Blind, Toad the Wet Sprocket, the Samples, the Eagles, and Twaine. You might be surprised to know that AC/DC's BACK IN BLACK ranks high up on my list as well. My guitar player, Doug Pettibone, plays with Jewel and I like some of her stuff.
Anything else?
