Kert Mathew
I'm not a band...I just write songs which one day I hope someone will re-record or publish.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Joe Washbourn Gets Kert
It was a long time coming but Toploader's Joe Washbourn has finally got round to picking his winner for February's Dream Prize. When he learned of the win, Kert Mathew didn't care about the delay, he was off for the VIP treatment at this year's V2001 Festival.

At the tail end of February Toploader's Joe Washbourn sifted through getoutthere's files and took a selection of tracks away with him. Tracking him down hasn't been easy, but when we did eventually find him he was quick to reveal his Dream Prize winner - Stevenage's Kert Mathew.
"I am absolutely delighted to have won," said Kert. "It's a great festival and the line-up this year is brilliant. There are so many bands I want to see." More importantly for Kert though was that his music had been recognised by an established artist. "Joe Washbourn has actually listened to one of my songs and liked it! Recognition from someone whose opinion I respect is priceless," commented an ecstatic Kert.
The track in question, 'Something Good Around' was uploaded in early February to minimal praise. In fact, it only clocked up eight downloads. But Joe looked past the mathematics to pluck the track from obscurity.
Picking up this prize has given Kert the incentive to dive back into the studio. "I've just recorded a four track demo which I have been sending out and distributing wherever I can," says Kert.
