Equator Records Focus of the week:
Rico
When you have a man that can produce and sing, you have what you call a superb artist. Born in the beautiful Caribbean country of Guyana and raised on the Sugar City nation of St. Kitts and Nevis Hails a great up coming singer with a spectacular voice by the name of Rico also known as Gesim Fraser. At an early age while Rico attended school in St. Kitts he discovered his love and passion for music. Rico was only 8 years old when he got his first keyboard. He was not the type who grew up with a quote on quote silver spoon in his mouth. Rico always had a dream as a young man to be a great musician one day. While he attended The Basseterre Senior High School, Rico joined the school band which was conducted by Mr. Wingrove Hicks. It was there where he developed the skill to play the Tenor and alto Saxophone. From playing these instruments Rico then developed the skill to play music by ear. One day in school Rico was just hanging out with a few friends fooling around with their voices. When Rico started to sing, they were all in total shock and surprised that such a voice was coming from their school mate. They then stopped him and said boy!!! You know you could sing!!. Rico was then shocked himself to know that he had discovered a new talent within himself. After Rico graduated from Collage, he then straight after began to work at a local super market where he met a talented young man by the name if Doggy also known as Kayane Lake. Rico and Doggy became good friends and realized that both of them had something in common, Music! They both use to meet during their lunch period and write songs that were designed to touch peoples lives in a positive way. The first song they did was called Live Wise. They performed their first song in front of their staff members and blew them away with the talent they unfolded. Rico and Doggy then formed a group called Two As One. This group was discovered by Kelvin Christopher of Equator Records in 2006. Kelvin realized that this group had the potential to become a new Icon in the Caribbean. Also as a solo artist Rico began to record his own singles with Equator. His first single which is called Your Place In This World was made a big impact because of the message this song had to it. Rico performed this single on his first show along with other songs along side Beres Hammond on December 22nd 2006. Beres Hammond, promoters and everyone else was in total shock because they had never seen or heard from Rico before. Rico then began to make a step up the ladder of fame. Rico released his first music video in February of 2007 which was featuring Young G a local rapper which is a part of Equator Records. This video had heads turning and people talking about Rico and Young G. Thus far Rico is creating a name for himself within a short space of time and is determined to be successful in everything that he does pertaining to his musical career. One of Ricos biggest dreams is to put St. Kitts on the world map when it comes to great sounding positive music.
