Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kayla spent much of her youth singing with her mother. Though her musical influences range from the Jackson 5 to Whitney Houston, Kayla has her own style and credits her love for music to her mother who is a great singer and her father who is an avid drummer, guitarist and songwriter who was part of a band some years ago. It’s no wonder why Kayla has such great talent, raised on the Motown sound, her parents’ encouragement to pursue her dreams has driven this young lady to reach beyond the Southwest and share her musical abilities with the rest of the world. Kayla started singing at the age of eight in church and during her last years of high school, she began to actively pursue her goal. Currently attending New Mexico State University, Kayla is recording and has performed at several events throughout New Mexico and West Texas. Her largest performance to date was for a crowd of approximately 100,000 at Kirkland Air Force Base during their July 4th Extravaganza. During that particular show, Kayla sang an hour set of Patriotic songs along with the accompaniment of the 44th United States Air Force Band. She has performed for New Mexico State Fair, New Mexico Rodeo, NMSU, UNM, Albuquerque Isotopes and New Mexico Scorpions. When she’s not performing, this NMSU Sophomore keeps herself pretty busy: “When I’m not studying or in the studio, I’m usually hanging out with my friends.” Some of Kayla’s extracurricular activities include: singing in the NMSU Gospel Ensemble, Dancer’s Unlimited, and BSNMSU (Black Students of New Mexico State University). Kayla hopes to become a sought after singer/songwriter and integrates her love for R&B, Soul, Hip Hop and Pop music into her soon to be released self titled EP. Her single, “I Wanna Know” is already making its way up some of the Internet charts and is set to be one of the hottest joints. Kayla’s adoration for music and for people to love her music keeps her poised to share with the world her voice and dynamic songwriting abilities. “I am very blessed to have the opportunity to do what I love to do, and I thank God and all the people that lend their love and support.” Kayla

Of course, Kayla credits her musical abilities to her Mother and Father, who both have very extinsive musical backgrounds, but Kayla also grew up on Motown (The Jackson 5, the Temptations, The Supremes), and music from the 50’s and 60’s.
